Lets see some Hinderer action

Just got my Project X in today. Was lucky and got the same configuration as my also recently acquired XM-18 3" (Working Finish, OD Green G10). It's larger than I expected but the action, fit and finish, and sweet built in tool is amazing:

I may have NOT paid attention to the increased thickness at the harpoon spanto tip when I took one of my user XM-18 to a sharpening stone, and I laid it back a little too far. But the blade was really chipped up from hard use over the past year, and I should have tried for 20 degrees instead of 15.

Thankfully I stopped to check things out before it got too bad! I can get someone I know to fix the edge, but the working finish near the tip is toast.

Hypothetically speaking, how much do you think Hinderer would charge me to fix this up, edge and finish both?

Unsolicited opinion - I think it looks fine. Looks like a user should look. You could probably dull the scratches with a strop. I’d just continue to use it.

Regardless, I need to finish the sharpening and stropping work if I'm going to keep using it as is. It's a 130 mile round trip drive to someone I know who can put a perfect edge on the blade.

I could try a Lansky or Worksharp instead of free hand stones, and then use my new larger stropping bat (the one I've been using previously is an 8" portable strop). I just got some half micron and 4 micron diamond spray from DBK to use on the different sides, and I have green, yellow, and white compound now as well (bought more than one bat).

I would also like to figure out how to darken the scratches to get back to the Hinderer working finish. It's not a similar situation to when I can use a Scotchbrite pad on a brushed stainless steel watchband to bring back the OG brushed finish.

If you really want it cleaned, send it to somebody to sharpen on a belt and bead-blast the blade. Shouldn't cost too much. For cases like this and cheap kitchen knives, I have a little belt drive myself:

(Ranch included as prop).

But I'm with luethge luethge - it's OK for a user.

New scale, Skiffs, and Lynch deep carry clip for the XM-18 3.5" slicer. Just before the photos the knife blew off of the block wall, bounced off the concrete, and poked me in the shin with the tip. Funny thing is that I can't find a mark on the knife. Am wearing new pants too, now with a hole near the shin.
