December sneak peak

Ka Bars coming soon 🤤 man I would love to be able to justify buying one of those bad boys lol

Happy Friday

Hey guys. I’m talking to someone about an xm-18 backspacer hmbs. If I’m understanding these correctly, I’d need specific standoffs in order to install it.
He has just the backspacer. Nothing else.
I have a couple questions for the group.

1. Am I correct in needing standoffs for installation?

2. Would I also need eklipse scale screws to go with the standoffs?

3. Anyone have a lead on these parts? I’d really like a backspacer or glass breaker hmbs but they seem to be mostly unobtainable.

Thanks guys!

I saw a couple full kits on AZCK recently, might be worth checking out.

Yeah I saw those. I think they have the copper and green. I need stonewashed or black at the moment. I am surprised those have been there as long as they have… maybe they’ll disappear now.

As a fellow Ohioan and long time fan of RH knives, I am in a love/hate state with the Project X, which could have been one of my all time favorites.

I have drifted away from RHK's post-Gen4. I really don't like lock bar inserts. They are a complication I truly wish were left optional, as I love the lockup of a hardened titanium lockbar on bladesteel. Similarly, I really wish we could still get the KISS principal non-TriWay pivot without the extra milling and recesses it requires. So both of those things I knew would bother me, albeit I could and have tried to set those things aside.

The thing that ruins the design for me is the huge crescent cutouts on the blade tang. Why?! Blade mounted thumbstuds work perfectly in the XM. If RHK insisted on hiding the stop pin function (completely unnecessary IMHO), then blade-mount the stop pin where the crescent cutouts are instead of weakening the blade near the pivot. Mill the frame, not the blade. I truly don't understand this design on a knife meant for real world duty. I absolutely HAS to weaken the blade as compared to a drilled hole filled by a fitted stop pin.

I so want to love this knife, but those slots in the blade tang just kill it for me.

I’ve cut my finger once badly because of pocket lint between tang and external stop pin, so I don’t mind the internal pin and tang cut-out. Of course I like the thumb stud / stop pin combo of the XMs better when it comes to sturdiness.

I don’t have the X, only Fulltracks with similar construction. Now, a Fulltrack with brass washers only would be perfect. The tri-way blade cutout next to the stop pin cutout makes the tang even weaker, and I could live without it.

Note that the Fulltrack - compared to the large XM24 has a surprisingly thinner blade (.17 vs .185”), it’s not designed to be more robust. And the X is even thinner (.165”?).
