Lets see some Hinderer action

Direct from RHK when available, other members, and Whitty, the red and bone came him this week. It does feel different, kinda softer and gripper at the same time.

so I tried bending it a little but didnt feel comfortable trying to bend it too much...and also just looked at it and the blade moving a little actually had to do more with the lockbar moving laterally. didnt notice that before so I guess its just in the design and no way to get around that. plus i put a little pressure on the lockbar itself while opening and doesnt help at all with deployment...only for detent.

I dont know....i think im just going to return it cause I highly doubt I will be able to get $400 back later on...just kind of pissed though because I was really looking forward to this knife...i mean $400 pocket knife is really expensive and just figured it would absolutely be flawless.

guess my expectations were too high.

You're a fan of the black, you'll probably dig this one.

I wasn't really looking for black XM's at first because I've had so many black-bladed knives in the past, I got kind of tired of them...but I totally agree that these are so nice looking. I got this awesome exclusive last month on Knifecenter. Now I'm in love with the black DLC, lol. Actually next one I'm eyeing is the same version as yours - no-choil, M390, black one from DLT. Just deciding what G10 I want. I really want one of the M390's, one of my favorite steels. Also would like one in 20CV but they've eluded me thus far.

That's gorgeous! I'd buy one of those in an instant if I had the chance. I'm the same way -- this is actually my only folder with a coated blade. I've always preferred satin or stonewash until I saw the coated XMs.

I don't think your expectations were too high. I would check with them and see if they will switch it out for you and ask if they will check the detent before shipping. I know they are a big company but I do not think it is an unreasonable request.

Are you disassembling the knife when your trying to bend it? That's a must, doing it assembled won't help at all.

PSA folks, don't use this much damn loctite on the pivot....took me forever to break it free, and ended up scuffing the stonewash with the hinderer tool a lil bc of it.

Something tells me he didn't take it apart. I have always been able to fix a problem just like he is describing. If he is uncomfortable doing that I understand. I believe Rick explains in detail what he will and will not fix on his web site.

Lol really? You think I tried to bend it without taking apart? So I just sat there trying to push on lockbar against a super steel blade which there is no give?

Come on man I think we are all adults here lol...most people buying knives in this range will have some common sense...also I don't want to press too hard on the lockbar because titanium is a lot harder than steel so it is a lot easier to snap than bend.

Anyway decided to just get a refund...no need to deal with this nonsense on a $500 pocket knife lol...i could just put that money into a sig716 instead

I'm liking the carbon fiber, It's alot more grippy than the g10.

Were the spanto harpoons a limited run that won't happen again? I'm looking for a second XM, like the 3 inch wharnie, but really liked that one.

They were a limited run. I think they will end up doing more of them in the future do to their popularity but I do not expect it to be any time soon. From what I can tell their production schedule is filled up between now and Blade Show!

Mp1 got a lil edge work b4 going to its new home.

Just saw that I missed the five you found today. :(

You saved me one though, right?

well that wont work as i tried pushing in the lock arm with the blade closed and it will not go in any further...but this offset was done on purpose obviously otherwise if the ball went in completely then the lock arm would be touching the blade which I definitely dont want. All I want is the ball to go in about 35% so the blade will be a little more stabilized when closed.

Ok this is a bit ridiculous. This isn't a $50 Kershaw and you shouldn't have to bend or take apart anything. This is why I won't buy one of these knives, and it's too bad because I love the look, but every single one I've ever handled had an issue with something. One of the most popular expensive knives with the worst quality I've ever seen. But I would get on the phone and get that knife back to Hinderer and tell them for $500 you aren't accepting anything less than perfect. You shouldn't have to rip down a new knife like this and try to bend stuff to get it to not rattle and/or come apart in your pocket.

Everyone has a different definition of perfect. kershaw and ZT rip my fingers to shreds because their detents are too strong. I like being able to take my knives apart and adjust them to my liking without having the maker void a warrantee. Different strokes for different folks. That being said Hinderer has a 100% satisfaction guarantee and I'm sure they will honor it.

On the same issue, all of the XMs I own needed a little adjustment in the beginning. Small stuff: loosening a pivot, cleaning and re-lubricating with Daiwa or Nano oil, little tweaks of the lockbar to get the action to my version of "perfect;" things like that. These were not all needed, just one or two per knife.

Were they critical to the knife's functioning? No, not in the least. I have a certain way of keeping my framelock folders. These adjustments just allowed me to get things to where I like them. You may have different requirements or preferences. I know some guys who prefer to leave everything "factory," and that's fine too.

I will add that I have made adjustments on every framelock or other type of locking folder I have owned irrespective of brand or maker: Hinderer, Strider, Reate, Chris Reeve, Zero Tolerance or Emerson--they have all benefitted from some tinkering/tuning before I was completely satisfied. It comes with the territory and is no big deal.

I agree 100%. I have even had to tune $600+ framelock flippers from well known makers. All of them. I like an extremely strong detent such that I can't shake the blade out no matter what I do because I'm often jumping and running at work and have had quite a few knives open in my pocket. Even CRK sebenzas. All knives can benefit from a little tuning, centering, action smoothing, and adjustment because I want and need things a certain way. Every Hinderer I have bought new in the last 2 years (probably 10) I have been able to make perfect to what I want with some basic adjustments. Same adjustments I have had to make on the other knives.
