All I can say is
WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats! What an awesome collection of INFI!!!!
What can I say, big INFI is my weakness!
I still am![]()
I am awaiting one too, but mine has some special custom requests pending approval, so I figure I will be the last one to get one and that is absolutely fine with me.![]()
Do you think the MOABOLO will replace your TTKZ? I wonder if this beast of a chopper will need to be thinned a little.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that the MOABolo is reasonably thin behind the edge (considering how fat it is)...I'd like to tell you more, or even try measuring it for you but I ended up dropping my MOABolo off with a good friend who agreed to put one of his "stupid sharp" convexed zero edges on it for me...Do you think the MOABOLO will replace your TTKZ? A badass chopper needs a badass edge, and factory edge wasn't quite enough on mine.
Awesome -- sounds like it'll be a real special piece of INFI. I'm curious what exactly could they put on the front 2 inches that would avoid damaging the edge when chopping roots? Is the edge angle going to be more obtuse?I won't know until I can use them both side by side. I love the TTKZ handle, I wish it would be used on more models, but Fusion handles work really well too and don't weigh quite as much. I don't think the MOABolo will need thinning with the full flat grind unless it is at the very edge, FFG's are pretty good performers for most chopping tasks. My TTKZ custom has a very fat full convex grind on it and could use thinning like PeterPHWS (sp?) had done to his. I also don't need as much of the nuclear serration stuff on the top for my uses, even though they look really cool, but I need something at the very front 2 or so inches at the front of the swedge to chop roots without damaging the cutting edge. I will just have to wait and see what the results yield. Either way, it is going to be a very fun chopoff between the two!![]()
Awesome!! I'm curious since it's already a full flat grind -- is this friend of yours completely re profiling the blade/remove a considerable amount of blade material to achieve that full convex with zero edge? Either way -- if love to see how it turned out and how it will perform. The beauty of having such a thick stock allows for a lot of different modifications. Can't wait to hear/see more.
Have you heard of Ban Tang Knives?
It's Ban of Bantang knives doing the work...he used to do a lot of Busse mods before he started making his own knives, and was nice enough to do a friendly favor for me. If you know anything about Ban and his work and how much he values the act of actual cutting, even he thought it was pretty nicely in terms of overall edge geometry for a massive Busse chopper, so neither of us felt serious thinning was needed at this point.Awesome!! For now he's just going to round off the shoulders, which will naturally thin things out a little bit behind the edge.
Sorry I wasn't clear, he's just covexing the edge, not doing a full regrind....I prefer a full flat grind going into zero edge, so that's what we're going with.
I figure I want to get to know and enjoy the MOABolo as it is. Once I've had some time and use with it I may go with further work, but for now, I think this modification alone will result in a serious performance jump![]()
