LETS SEE THOSE MAGNIFICENT HARNESS JACKS

I am stoked to have this arrive.

This Harness Jack Knife is a real nice one, so so Rapt with it.

This is an Early Winchester Harness Jack, It features that mind blowing Napanock Punch that Winchester used for a short time after the purchasing of Napanoch, I cannot express just how much I love these period Harness Jacks, we ALL have a certain Mr. Charlie Waynorth Campagna to thank for opening up our minds to the beauty and to the History of the Harness Jack knives.

I saw for the first time tonight the slightest remains of the WINCHESTER Etch that used to be on the Main Blade.

Stunning Jig Bone - stunning everything imo.

A wonderful, historic knife, in good collector's shape, Duncan!!! Congrats on a timeless piece!! 😮:)

I remember you posting where you got this from, I have always kept a copy ( if you don't mind ) of this Knife- I agree, it is a quite special Knife, never have I seen another.

LOVE that Punch that's for sure!

Ok, Question time Charlie, Hudson's Bay- not a manufacturer- so who do you think made this Knife?, I remember seeing just how close the Punch was to that gorgeous Waterville that came my way one day - Oh Boy what a day that was! but that is not to say Waterville had anything to do with it- do you Know who made that stunner Charlie?

And to think this made it through the ND post office 🤔 ;) what a gem my friend!!!

Darn! My Mind.......

I see that Boker used a Punch that is similar in the whole length of the Punch face being hollowed out, Boker also used other Punches that appear on the Harness Jacks similar to the Ulster Punch etc, also Wostenholm have a similar full length Hollowed Punch - and also similar to the Schatt and Morgan early laminated Punch.

When I looked up the Hudson in Levines 4, I wondered if there was a possibility of the Knife being made Germany - and a much much smaller chance- England.

So..... when you posted the W D Herbert - I was floored by yet another gorgeous HJ - but like you say aesthetically they are twins, what also led me in my mind to going back to German is the extremely deep set Stamping in the Blade- as Wadsworth etc do so prolifically.

Charlie, I have LOTS to learn about Sears, I haven't up to this point come across anything that has the name W.D Herbert attached to it that is involved with Sears - but as I said I am wanting to continue deeper down this road with Sears, I did however look up in the indexes of the Books: "Sears, Roebuck USA" by Gordon L. Weil as well as the Book "Catalogs and Counters" by Emmit & Jeuck for the mention of a W.D Herbert ( long shot I know ) - nothing, but....... there are many Sears and Roebuck Knives made in Germany around the 70's, and of course in the earlier days Sears were selling a lot of very fine early Knives "Imported".

So..... I looked up in the big Auction site, and came across a broken relic that had the exact same type of Tang stamp as your W.D Herbert Charlie, the Tang Stamp is W. D. HERBERT - in the exact Font - its the same maker for sure, and Charlie the Knife seems to suggest its German with its Bolster pins being so much darker.

I bought the Knife for you so you could have quite possibly a slight advancement on the hunt whom made your Harness Jack Knife, it quite possibly could be German made? So I will ask our North Dakota Post Master to intercept this Knife and send it to you Sir, in the meantime, here is the Tang Stamp of that Knife ( Charlie it was very inexpensive - so please dont worry about the cost, the postage will probably be more 🤣
