LETS SEE THOSE MAGNIFICENT HARNESS JACKS

You guys are making me want to collect HJ! Both rare and desirable knives 😎:thumbsup:

I am stoked to have this arrive.

This Harness Jack Knife is a real nice one, so so Rapt with it.

This is an Early Winchester Harness Jack, It features that mind blowing Napanock Punch that Winchester used for a short time after the purchasing of Napanoch, I cannot express just how much I love these period Harness Jacks, we ALL have a certain Mr. Charlie Waynorth Campagna to thank for opening up our minds to the beauty and to the History of the Harness Jack knives.

I saw for the first time tonight the slightest remains of the WINCHESTER Etch that used to be on the Main Blade.

Stunning Jig Bone - stunning everything imo.

Charlie, just in case you miss it, back in the last page- check out my post 2140, in a few weeks the relic should get to you, I will of course have to sweet talk that Handsome Man - the general Post Master of North Dakota though :)
Thanks Duncan!! You are very kind - and I like relics for the info they give!!!
Hope all goes joyously and healthy for the New Year for all in your house!!

When I looked up the Hudson in Levines 4, I wondered if there was a possibility of the Knife being made Germany - and a much much smaller chance- England
Apparently, Bernie Levine is the only person who listed the brand, Hudson's Bay!! Maybe because he used to own the very knife I have posted!!!! He sold it to a person, who sold it to me! Bernie told me he offered it to the Hudson's Bay Museum, but they couldn't come to a deal!!
Still the only one seen all these years, since ~2004!!
Likely made in Germany , I think!!

Charlie, I remember you mentioning that about Bernard’s ownership, very interesting.
I purchased hundreds of pages of catalogs from Bernard - the J.A.Henckels earlier days , it was something that has a tale about it.

I will be interested in seeing what you think of the relic once you get it- to me the stamping is exact and they share DNA - but it’s not in the hand yet.

Scored this LF&C off the bay. Unfortunately the main blade has no snap left at all. The seller gave full disclosure tho. I don’t think I’ve seen a punch like this one before. ( and I’ll take any advice on getting snap back, cleaning and oiling didn’t make any difference)

sounds like maybe a lack of "oil the joints"?
Does the backspring move at all when you open the blade?
If not the spring may be worn down by the tang?
If it don't move, Someone might be able to make a new spring or laser weld the worn spring back to original?
(or use it like a friction folder, if the blade don't try to open in pocket or flop partly closed when open between cuts?)

Interesting punch. I've never seen one like tha, either. (not that that means anything.)

I recall reading that WD Herbert was a brand for the Canadian market and made by Boker in Solingen which never took off. There was quite a few Herbert's which were part of a factory collection (forget which) which were sold off around 10 years ago. I have a regular 2 blade jack and the pulls are beyond a 10.

Previously I mentioned Boker does have a nicely full length hollowed Punch- but..... they arent the only ones who did this.

I had a look through Neal Punchard's and Ricky Ray's BOKER book, and went through the Boker time line and did not see a mention of W. D. Herbert.

Here is an example of a slightly more modern Boker with the full Hollowed Punch- vastly different as we can see when comparing the the Hudson Bay Co HJ.

Does the punch lock?
If you’re referring to the LF&C, no it does not lock. And if it ever had any patent numbers on it they are well worn away
Beautiful shot Travis of one of Charlie's greats!

Thank you for posting folks!

Yes that LF & C is pretty cool, I have one stashed away somewhere, can't remember if it is a Clip Point or a Spear like yours!
I gotta dig out my other LF&C HJ and compare them. Finally getting to set up my little knife room!!!!
