LETS SEE THOSE MAGNIFICENT HARNESS JACKS

Yes, that knife is from the “good ol’ days”. That was from back when Charlie had a hand in the design of all the great Blade Forums knives. I’m sorry you stabbed yourself behind the fingernail, but at least you have a good memory from it. I think all owners of that one have been hurt at least once with that super fine and sharp punch. Maybe not as bad as your experience though 🤣. I use that super fine punch specifically for getting out really deep splinters. It is the best tool for that job I’ve ever found.
Sorry Travman Travman , I thought I replied to you Travis. Perfect Punch for that- it's so extremely fine! I can't say it's a good memory tbh - but it is definitely etched into the memory :)

waynorth waynorth , Campbellclanman Campbellclanman The two of you (IMHO) are the most knowlageable.

Question:
Did I somehow chip the end of this punch? (knife is my 852211 harness jack. ☹️😭)

I don't recall the tip looking like this.
No idea how I could have chipped it.
I have only used it on leather - never wood, and have always gone with a straight 180° to the surface of the leather.

The last thing I used the punch for wa a couple holes for 2 Chiago Screws i my belt, so I could attach a new buckle "extension". (The original "extension" was thin leather, and tore at the buckle fold-over. 🤬 I used an old belt to make the new one.
You see a lot of Punches having been "sharpened" off at an angle at the tip, I'm guessing a lot of the times it was for this very reason, or perhaps using the punch so often they had to touch it up.
Are you going to try to carefully taper out the chip with sandpapers?

I have not decided yet.
I have a "few" other punches (not as many as several folk here by a long shot) so I might just use one of my "Demo Knives" or Scout/Camp/Utility knives, when I need a punch.

Honestly, I use a punch more often to pry goat head thorns/"sandburrs" out of my bike and trike tyres (hopefully before they hole the tubes), than I do to make holes in leather. 🤨
