LETS SEE THOSE MAGNIFICENT HARNESS JACKS

Hmmmm, must be I never noticed that they were like that before Charlie. Proof that I notice or learn something every day!

Thank You Charlie for covering that.

Charlie Sir - a couple of questions if you don't mind- ( and the reason for the questions ).

Where can I obtain information on the actual patents or designs on the punches - and if possible the reasons for the difference of the designs ( the thinking behind them ).

Can this be found like in a book of sorts ( which I doubt) - or and please forgive me - am I asking questions that should not be asked?
The reason I am asking this is because the Harness Jacks are really turning into my absolute main focus- and I honestly feel quite ashamed as my knowledge is very little on them.

Many thanks everyone for the kind comments toward the HJ's and toward Paul and others who have been so amazing.

I'm probably not the "Charlie" you were asking, but there was a protracted discussion re' punch blades here a couple of years ago, including demonstrations of how they cut. Some were old some were new.

LG-IV has several of the patents listed on page 25. You could take those numbers or the names of the patentees and locate the actual patents and drawings in Google Patents.

The HJ is another knife I don't have. Seems every time I think I have a pretty good collection of knives threads like this cause me to realize I have no where near what I would like to have in different patterns.

Charlie Sir
I would be the world's biggest fool to not want to hear what you have to say about a knife :), Thank you for that, the reason I am a wee bit worried about asking is because I am not expecting anyone who has been working hard for years to gather information - to say "Oh here you go ":o
I am going to start gearing up to gather such information.
Many thanks, and thank you for your kind comments in Old Knives as well

Randy - Get into them my friend - the HJ is an awesome knife!

I will gather up the punch info I have and post it here soon Duncan!
I do have several patents printed out but I would like to find the links for them.

Primbs ...Howd I miss that?....

Now thats a real nice old India Steel.... Great Score!

I just thought I would give this Thread A shake!

I have looked through this thread and actually experienced quite an emotional feeling, so many Great HJ's have been gifted to me - With such encouragement and support - it fuels my ambition and desire for this knife so to so many - a massive thank you.

My good mate Paul H sent me a box of knives that I tend to buy - and they in turn tend to build up at his house until the poor guy has to send them off to me- this in itself supports me so much so thank you so much Paul, and as you saw last page, Pauls outstanding Robeson HJ that he gifted me -now that is a very serious knife!

Speaking of gifting, and knives being serious ( thats my trying to explain how awesome a knife is ), I opened this box of goodies that Paul sent to me, and ...well I thought PAUL!!! we had agreed that we dont sneak any more knives to each other-but Paul always keeps breaking his promise - and I thought this was yet another time this very generous guy had been thinking of others.........
I was wrong - but not about Paul being such a great person, but the knife was sent to me by another most generous guy - through Pauls Private Post Office that he has going because of me

By all means to the great person you are to pipe up and admit to your generosity - :)

But folks...this was the "extra" knife in my package sent by this most thoughtful and generous man...... Sir...Many thanks for your support, and many thanks for your help that you have showered me with since the day I arrived here on the Porch....
I ALWAYS feel guilty trying to say thank you- it just doesnt seem enough!

Here is this magnificent HJ.....Now check out the Bone on this Stunning HJ, This is another very special knife that joins the ranks of my precious gifted knives, and on top - its a Rare HJ at that....Wow Factor oozes from this Beast.....

Honestly...Stag to die for......

Duncan, a very generous member gifted you that WONDERFUL HJ, he is as you would so aptly say LEGEND!!!

So I hope that very generous man would pop in here and admit to his extreme kindness. It's a very beautiful Prototype Duncan:D:cool::thumbup:

A lot of people look at stag for its "figure". Popcorn, valleys, grooves, etc. I can appreciate those attributes, however, I look at stag for its color variations. That HJ has a very nice range of colors from black to brown to red and orange. I even see some purple specks in there. Very nice stag!!

(I see the blade has a smudge that looks just like an ear as well LOL)

Duncan, that knife has your name on it!
(When they made Duncan they only got as far as the Prototype!!:D There is only one!!)
And anyone who loves HJs has got my attention! Enjoy it in good health my friend.
When Bill (GEC) made my very short run of HJ #4s on the #54 pattern, he also made some knives for his dealer brands. This was one of two prototypes for his HJs.
