Hey Charlie - thank you for this amazing show of great Knives - they truly are magnificent.:thumbsup:
The one with the snapped off blade was an early Schatt & Morgan, Titusville, with John Schatt's punch on it! The punch and the bone were perfect examples of the era!! I gifted that to David Clarke when he was pushing Queen to revive those old patterns from the catalogs - "heritage series" maybe, but that knife disappeared in Queen's ending fiasco!!
I actually sent him two of those punches, and they both have disappeared!!:mad:
I have misplaced the dogleg relic, but I will keep looking!

Charlie - thank you kind Sir for getting back to me- Yes! I thought to myself it looked like this one..

But I couldn't see the depth of the concaved face of the Punch, Charlie- although this HJ ( Schatt & Morgan) is far from a Mintie- if you ever are looking for an example of the Punch- this is yours my friend, I was so pleased to see Dave post his one where the Punch hasn't been shortened - as we do not see these around, so please remember that Charlie.

Speaking of gifting or helping - the reason why I am so keen to offer things like that is because I owe so many so much, take Charlie and Dave for example - those guys are legendary as to how great they are to offer up help in a Heart beat, I am not too sure just how much of a friend they do have here in New Zealand.

Friends helping friends, I got a message the other day from Frank ( Knifethetank) after I made a comment about always wanting to find one of Charlies first Stag 54 HJ's with no Shield - now these just DO NOT come up often if at all, well Frank spied one, it was a little dear to be honest, but....
Franks messaged me and told me where it was...zoom!!! I was there, had a peek, kind weed myself a little and wanted to make sure I had it right- or it would have been a very costly mistake thanks to out strength to the US Greenback  :(
Charlie confirmed it was indeed, Charlie did a little extra, but that's another story, I couldn't get to Paypal quick enough!

Once again, through the help of good people I have one of my Grails, Oh man.... do I have an outstanding beautiful HJ 54 from 2008!
The label states that the Stag used was picked very carefully so the Hafting of the Knife could replicate the quality days of old- and man... it is that- just superb! I just love the way the Bark interiors run up to the Bolster, the Stag is beautiful, The Knife I was to be honest from one of the earlier 54's GEC produced a bit of a Nail Breaker- in fact I was REALLY expecting that- Oh man I am Rapt!! even with my weak nails I can open this Knife with ease!
Oh yes! this is the prototype of this run too! doesn't mean I can go out and buy a House with this Knife, but from a tiny run of Hens Teeth, having the Proto is something I like!
Again to Charlie, Dave and Frank...my friends thank you very very much!

The Photo's DO NOT do justice to this outstanding Knife, here is Mr. 541208...

Seems like a co-operative effort!!:D:D
Duncan, that looks very much like GEC's elk stag, don't know if it is, though, since they only used it on stainless knives (normally).
But maybe for the proto . . .
That is definitely nice Sambar Stag, Jeff!! I remember it well!!

Thank you guys for the very kind messages.
Jeff I know what you mean - I was actually going to state that it is very similar to Elk with its White and clean look.
In the hand you can see a warmth of a Golden Hue there - I imagine with use this would of course go much deeper.
I’m not sure I would have the guts to use this beauty - I’m in two worlds with that.:)

Very nice Duncan:cool: Happy for you as I know you were excited for it's arrival. Now pocket that rare jewel, get it out into the work place, throw a heavy cooked steak patina on her as well:eek::D I kid, I kid;):p or do I?;)

Yikes!! It's too rare (and too expensive!) to devalue it!!
IMO, you are the caretaker of a knife that belongs to posterity, with a tale too easily lost!!!!;)

I kid Charlie as I agree in a knife that rare being saved vs used. But it's Duncan so I just have to needle him when I can, he's relentless when it comes to giving me a hard time:D;);)
