Nice, thanksIts a “worm groove” or so the story goes…but my Forest Ranger, also from S&M, is raised…a “worm tunnel” perhaps?View attachment 2162646
Harness Jack.Gents, this thread holds pictures of some of the best looking slippies made if you were to ask me.
One thing, can someone tell me what HJ means/is.![]()
I believe it is called "reverse worm grove bone," when the "trail" is raised rather than grooved. There may be other names as well. Its a “worm groove” or so the story goes…but my Forest Ranger, also from S&M, is raised…a “worm tunnel” perhaps?View attachment 2162646
Thanks, Duncan — I’m happy to have found one in such nice condition.Congrats Jim for picking up one of the better Harness Knives from modern production- Charlie's HJ's.
Indian Trail Bone is not raised but the more original version of what some people call worm Groove. Our friend from in Blade Forums Mike Robuck Authored a book called "Gun Traders Guide to Collectable Knives" there's a nice section on Bone Handles!
Neal Punchard as well has written quite a few books on the older knives such as Henckels, Switchblades ( 2 books ), Boker etc
There was an Indian Tribe with the name of Cattaraugus . Cattaraugus Knife Co. called their Worm Groove an Indian Trail .Thanks, Duncan — I’m happy to have found one in such nice condition.
Have not heard of "Indian Trail" before — looking forward to finding out more about that. Appreciate the book references!
