LETS SEE THOSE MAGNIFICENT HARNESS JACKS

They are indeed very nicely made!

Nice to see a Harness Jack Worn Down, I bought this Challenge Cutl. Co Bridgeport Conn Harness HJ Knife because of the worn and used condition and for display purposes.
The Empire Alvord Punch is in nice condition, so once ( if i ever ) get to get my Knives out in a more relaxed space - this can be displayed next to it's Very tidy Brother :)
On the pile side of the Punch Tang - U.S PATENT 833146. This knife was all class in it's day. Love the Older Ebony on these Knives.

Again, the terrible lighting does- even this ol wreck no justice - especially when looking at such nice Ebony.

Edited, moved to traditional thread as it was a Robeson Jack knife, but not a harness Jack, it has a small pen blade.

Nice display of Ebony, Duncan!!

I did my experiment with Potassium Permanganate on this faded older HJ!!No 3 before M.jpgNo 3 before P.jpgIt got a little too much exposure to the sun!! Above are the "before" pics, and below, the "after" pics!!No 3 after M.jpgNo 3 after P.jpg
After one application of PP!! Then, a friend came along and traded me out of it!!

It's no longer mine!!
🤣

Thanks Charlie, That richened up that HJ Beautifully! Does this process of using Potassium Permanganate mean you soak the whole knife in a solution- or you wipe the Handles with it? Interesting as that was a good result.

I should have taken pictures!! You de-grease the bone, make a thick solution of PP in a small container, and dab it on heavily with cotton swabs and let it almost dry!! (couple of hours)
It soaks in, but doesn't seem to affect the metal parts - it just wipes off the springs and bolsters later.

Thanks for that Charlie, this Potassium Permanganate, is this something you buy from a Chemist?

I don't know if it is my imagination or not, but since Charlie has spoken on the Catch Bit show ( more, more! ) I have noticed more movement of Harness Jacks popping up that don't look 100% correct from a Ebay seller that is prolific in making up and mixing up Knives - ok be brave Duncan and say it - counterfeiting, so I wonder as the popularity grows and lets be honest the Harness Jack Knife tends to move quickly if ever available - we are going to see more of these Frankenstein Knives - I know I have some here.
Listening to Charlie speaking about his first movement into Collecting Harness Jacks- its so so intriguing that Charlie cornered a Nich market- and here we are learning from such pioneers like Charlie and others who we can ask questions from and become that much more knowledgeable in these different fields of interest. Thank you all out there for your participation in our group here.

Often I search see the Knife and sit up bang it on my watch list... but when you look at it after a wee while I take it off my watch list, this is really disappointing buying a knife and once its in your hands - especially over here - its far too late.

I saw this wee Wadsworth, and yep - lets admit it it's a little bit of a plain Jane, but I thought it looked good enough to grab and check out- the Knife is good, but not a top shelf Collection target, but this little thing has awesome walk and Talk, nice wee HJ to pocket now and then.

I don't have a lot of L.F & C Harness Jack knives, this L.F & C Universal - as they did, sports the imitation Stag composite Handle material. Main Blade is in good condition, the Punch is a little worn, I thought this was quite a nice Harness Jack Knife to pluck up if cheap enough- so it worked out and here it is, glad to have it here. What I want of course is a lot of variances of these Punches, so nice.

Here is a far from mint HJ, but an older Winchester that features the Napanoch Punch, I was a bit skeptical to see if someone had altered a Robeson Punch to look like an older Napanoch Punch - so I dug out my other Older HJ's and compared - it looks good, I am just very paranoid right now after seeing a few HJ's that dont seem healthy to me.
This this hasnt had a world of use but shows it's age. When I am comparing Punches I not only look at the mark side- the nice facing that has those two grooves that meet and become one- but I also look at the pile side and the shape of the Tang's "shoulders", also the font of the stamping the reads: PAT'D 4 / 7 / 08, Everything seems ok, Punch and Spear mate to the springs perfectly there is one thing that stands out to me with this knife that I will investigate in the future, perhaps have it in my pocket for discussion when I am lucky enough to be around my Knife friends in person again.
Terrible lighting / photo's- that kind of destroys the look of the real quality of the Great older Ebony!

Nice Schrade, Duncan, and great old Buffalo!!! Your Winchester is great also!
You are finding some beauties!!

Thank you very much Charlie. It was great coming across the Buffalo - because of that cool Tang Stamp but also the Teardrop / Swell end shape and nice Bone 👍
Yeah I think those Winchesters are pretty cool 😎 😊

Have a great day everyone!
