Let's see those sharpeners!

No photos at the moment but I have a Buck Trihone that I see is no longer listed on their website. Also have a Sharpmaker that I use for daily touchups and a Wicked Edge that I primarily use for reprofiling. I also have a couple of leather strops but reserve those mostly for my blades with a convex edge.

I have kind of gotten into sharpening knives as a hobby.

Here is what I use…only that's a leather strop on the Kalamazoo right now.

I usually start with 220 grit if the knife is extremely dull. I get a lot of knives that way.
I'll go to 400 and 600 and finish it off with green rouge on the leather strop shown in the first picture below.
I can take ten very dull knives and have them shaving sharp in 30 to 40 minutes.

Some of my belts.

Party of my work area where I not only sharpen knives, but do my best at making them purdy again. :)

I have a little DMT for touching up knives when I'm at my desk.

Here are a few more of my sharpeners. Left to right. Dmt medium and fine, fine jewel stick, a stone my grandpa used (any info on what it is or grit etc would be appreciated) 600 grit Smith's diamond, and a Smith's medium Arkansas.

Well that got cropped somehow.

I have a Arkansas stone like that and it's referred to a hard Arkansas. Still, grades of Arkansas stones are not based on color but density (specific gravity). DM

Ok, I was just reading the same thing your referring to. Could u explain that a lil more in depth? Also, would that be the extra extra fine? Finer than the white fine on a old Smith's tri hone?

I have a Arkansas stone like that and it's referred to a hard Arkansas. Still, grades of Arkansas stones are not based on color but density (specific gravity). Should it feel very smooth it's a true hard. That color is also found in a soft Arkansas and Translucent. Two different grit stones. From 600 to 1000 grit. DM
Here's you a reference.
http://www.danswhetstone.com/stone_grades_101.htm

IF it is a Translucent they are sometimes listed at 1000 grit and the jet black stone finer at 1100 grit. Specific gravity is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference material. (H20)Temperature has a important role. Weight of a volume to the weight of an equal volume of a test material, say water.
i.e. a gal. of honey will weigh more than a gallon of water. Because the honey is more dense. The same with different oils. DM

It's pretty smooth and fairly heavy for its size. I was reading that same article. I can't tell what it is honestly. So u think it's finer than that white one I have on my tri hone?

The stone also has many very small Crystal particles in it. Idk if that will help in the identification.

You should weigh the two stones on a certified scale like at a grocery store or post office. Then determine each one's area in sq. inches. This would tell you which one is more dense,
(heavier)thus a finer grit. DM

Liking my new 722, should be great for my mt. biking.

Usually my 204 and Smiths Diamond Sharpener are all I need.

I have not seen one if throes in a while lol. Good lookin buck btw. Thoes are my favorite pocket clips.
