Let's see your Becker survival sheaths!

bk 2.jpg

I added an ESEE pouch and firesteel sleeve to my BK2 sheath- The altoids kit inside the pouch has: a small gerber folding blade, a photon micro-light, a small bic lighter, wire saw, a large piece of heavy foil folded flat, 10 matches and some dryer lint in a vacuum sealed plastic bag, 2 firestarters made from rolled up paper towels dipped in paraffin wax, a razor blade and 3 sewing needles taped inside the lid and 100' of spyder wire fishing braid wrapped around a piece of cardboard. The tin itself is sealed with heavy riggers tape.

Hey upnorth whats with the colored fire steels?

Finger nail paint to stop corrosion, then bulk gas line over them to stop chipping and reduce noise. Winters are long in Saskatchewan. :D Some of my ideas are practical, some just piddly playing. The grey chunks are a cut up Magnesium anode used for water heaters, found in any plumbing supply outlet. I'm pretty anal about lighters also, I have multiples everywhere. Jeez, this is almost embarrassing.
:o

The orange plastic match safes have either shaved fatwood or Magnesium.

Hey man long time no see! Glad you are back in these parts. Do you have carbide scraper/sharpeners attached to those?

Why yes I do and thanks for the glad hand, much appreciated. Those carbide scrappers are the cats meow. A few scrapes off the ferro rod and that Magnesium puts up a horrendously hot burst. I am always experimenting and learning from others.

I always wanted to get my hands on one of those to try out but never found one locally. I get a pretty good set of sparks off my knife spine though.

Too many people go overboard with it. Two drops per quart is the lower end if dealing with fairly clean water. Up to four drops for dirty stuff. Two drops is pretty decent taste-wise but anything more than that it starts to taste like pool water. Not horrid, but tolerable.

If you have the time to leave the top off your container, the chlorine will evaporate over an hour or so and leave the water without that bleachy taste. I use bleach regularly in my line of work for making safe drinking water and that is what I'll do for my team if we have the time.

Inspired by:

1 DerekH's BK-16 sheath - lovin' the AirWelt (TM), bro. Thanks a lot for your help.

2 That one old RAT/ESEE kit where they had an ESEE-6 inside a belt pouch.

The sheath looks crappy as hell, I'll do it better next time. Already ordered some slightly thicker kydex.

Pouch contains some cordage, altoids fire kit, SAK, Al foil, small FAK, jungle training survival card. There's still a lot of room. Need some sharpening stuff to pack in there, some means to store and purify water, maybe a space blanket. There's a lot of room in the pouch. Even fits my Walther P22 ad an extra mag.

My BK 2 Sheath i recently finished was the first sheath I've ever made. I couldn't be happier with it. Its multi carry and totally universal. If i want it on my left side for carrying a firearm on my right, i just need to change around the orientation which is held together with stainless hardware. The retention strap is removable, and reversible too. These pics are set up for right hand dangler, or left hand scout. Two screws and its left hand dangler, right hand scout. The dangler is removable for that high ride also.

That looks like great crafts(wo)manship; especially for your first sheath!

Crappy cell phone pic, but I just got this one from 710.....and it's freakin' awesome. Awesome workmanship, and kick butt customer service.

Thanks. I've made about a dozen different sheaths now, for myself and family. I don't sell any. And to be honest, I had been making holsters for a little while before that. It was my first sheath, but not my first attempt at leather craft. Anyway, I appreciate the compliment! Especially about the craftsMANShip! Lol.

Always nice to see a woman that's not afraid to carry a knife, and has no problems with carrying a nice sized fix blade knife.

Then who's butt and painted toes are we looking at? Unless of course that is you, and I will gladly eat my own foot.

That right there is the million dollar question. The again with a sweet mustang like 289's got, it probably isn't difficult to find women to model for you.

How would one prepare their own foot for consumption? Skin on the soles is kinda tough. Slow cooker maybe?

Hahaha. That's my wife, she's a good sport. But in all honesty, who would want to see my butt or feet! Nobody!

Nobody wants to see any dude's feet because dude feet is nasty. I don't care how hot it is, I wear shoes and long pants all year.

Some more pics.

Notice how little of the handle sticks out over the sheath. Easily hides under a t-shirt.

Flap opens up via velcro, got a survival card and a tiny FAK in there (disinfecting wipes, band-aids, steristrips)

Under the flap:

Main zippered compartment. Velcro and some extra pockets on both sides. Front one contains 6 sq.ft. of Al foil, some duct tape and 2 condoms. This compartment fits my P22.

The pouch is a Condor MA45, laced on with paracord. Pouch holds altoids tin, firesteel and mylar blanket...Still working on fixing the floppy belt loop (think I'm gonna order some DMT cards to stiffen it up) and figuting out a neat solution for the extra cord, but it holds a crapload of stuff. Pouches are MOLLE and cheap - ~$13 and decent quality.

??? Because you're expecting some survival babe to jump out of the trees and say Take me now!!!?? I gave up carrying a condom in the 80's; not sure how exactly that's a "survival" item...

They hold water ;)

not sure how exactly that's a "survival" item...

I always carry condoms. Wherever I go. Always.

I don't want to gear this kit towards "survival" simply because you don't get into situations like that around here. You're never more than 6km away from the nearest road. I go camping/hiking frequently (with girls even, mind you) and if I have condoms with me I've got that base covered.

I think it would be weird for a 22yr old single guy who carries 2lbs of gear in his backpack every single day (without ever needing 90% of it) not to carry condoms. They weigh nothing, don't take up space, and (unlike my fire kit) I usually end up using them now and then. Not dying of AIDS or catching one of the numerous other STDs out there is pretty cool and even kind of survival-ish, I think.

I carry tampons, too. Call me weird if you want.

BTW, your pic isn't showing :)
