Lets see your Cold Steel mods!!!

One more rehandle job - this time a 3V Master Hunter got a new OD green canvas micarta handle plus brass guard.

Wow, that's really somethin, nice job!

how did you cut the slot in the micarta for the tang
I didn’t 😊 well technically you can drill a hole into a micarta block for the tang. However, if you want to use the existing holes in the tang for the lanyard or the pin it gets tricky and you have to be very precise. So it’s easier to use two slabs of micarta, do some milling for the tang and drill the holes exactly where they need to be 😊 with modern epoxy’s power it’s not much of a difference, the handle will be very solid either way 👍

I put a Snaggle Tooth on my Counterpoint XL and it works well. I can't open it one handed otherwise, even with large hands. Its a great product!

Cold Steel Recon Scout in 3V with ironwood handle. I thought about changing the original (cheap) guard but in the end only cut it down a bit. Looking at it now, a nice brass guard might have been a better choice ...

Plain edge Spartan with Veff Serrations installed.

I thinned out the swedge a fair bit, leaving the last inch or so (the bit enclosed in the handle) sharpened to a proper convex edge, specular to the last bit of the main edge.

Then finally I mirror polished the whole thing. It's now possible to do back cuts like on a traditional Bowie, and penetration is vastly improved without too big of a compromise in tip toughness, I think.

This knife was donated by the user Centermass and it's very dear to me - I'll never thank him enough for it. It rides in my car next to my seat every day because I think it's a hair too heavy for edc on most days, but nonetheless especially after the mods it's a really complete package and as a bonus cuts and looks awesome doing so. I know that if push came to shove I cold really trust my life with it.

I'll try to post a complete review on it soon because it really deserves one.

Glad it’s getting the love it deserves!

Here's two of my modded Cold Steels I have close at hand. The Mayhem just sports a Snaggletooth, which is a really nice addition on a knife I really only carry if I want something that can handle unlikely SD capabilities.
The Marauder is a fully serrated version that I have cut off the rear guard. To be honest, I don't like the subhilt for a chopper, and my snap cut technique balances just a bit differently in my hand due to my decades of khukuri use. Instead, I have found that I prefer a lightweight self defense style blade like this one (thus the fully serrated edge) to be gripped in more of a sabre style hold and controlled with my thumb so that it cuts and can be used for angled thrusts. It also lends itself to a tip down icepick hold if drawn so that the little finger rests in the subhilt area. The lack of a rear guard allows the knife to come up fully flat against my forearm without anything banging into it.

That's an heirloom level on that Tai Pan. That's one of those knives that the design is so damn good, it deserves a better handle. One of my favorite CS fixed blades for sure.
