Nice job, that looks good!

Cold Steel Recon Scout in 3V with ironwood handle. I thought about changing the original (cheap) guard but in the end only cut it down a bit. Looking at it now, a nice brass guard might have been a better choice ...

I've seen a number of RS/TM rehandles, but that is not only one of the nicest looking, but the most practical looking, as well. The stacked leather handles are the coolest, but they don't appear to be the most ergonomic. Yours looks like it was actually designed for comfort first, and beauty is close behind! The top guard removal is a smart move for a field knife. As much as I love the TM, I believe the RS is much more practical.

Well that's just delightful. Great work!

Thanks for your kind words guys! Its inspired by the Moran handle, a handle style that I personally always found quite useful and comfortable!

Has anybody re-handled either a Trail Master or Recon Scout to give it a coffin-style handle? I might like to try modifying one of mine and, for some reason, keep coming back to a coffin handle.

If you ever decide to do this as a hobby and make a little whiskey money, , I have a Carbon V Trailmaster I'd love to have rehandled!
😅 bet you can do it yourself! It’s easy to remove the original rubber handle, it’s just held in place by the brass lanyard tube, no glue. For the handle you only need the wood, a drill, a dremel, a small belt sander and some epoxy. And some sandpaper of course as well as linseed oil for the finish. You might want to add a pin but it’s not easy to drill a hole through the hardened Cpm 3v. I went with a stainless steel tube for the lanyard instead to keep it in place.

Coming back to this one: did you completely replace the grivory handles with sculpted wooden scales, or is there some other magic at work with that Voyager?

If you do it again, or have pics of the past jobs, it would make for a great thread. Dealing with the range poses some problems and it would be great to see how you tackled them. I've considered stacked leather, but welding some thread to the end of the tang is the problem. Maybe pinning some hard cap on the last quarter would work. I dunno. Yours looks much more usable and ergonomic, not to mention purty!

Stripped and painted the handle
