Let's see your good old basic fixed blades, Bowie's, Stickers, etc.

GEC's H10 model really really got me into these old "Sportsman" style small bowies. This photo is only a couple weeks old but I've already added an H30 in jigged bone and an H40 in bocote.

Nice collection :)
I bought this Puronvarsi blade recently, it has a 23 cm blade. I really don't yet know what it will become. Originally it is made for a leuku, but this blade has in my opinion possibilities for other styles too. Nordic bowie? I'm making a handle to it now, but did not have anything fancy, so probably I will make a wrapped handle to it. I had in mind to use something organic, like glue-soaked hemp cord or something else if I can find a suitable alternative. I think the result will look a bit like viking age seax. The quality of the blade is outstanding and it arrived literally razor sharp, as my thumb accidentally found out.

That's beautiful, be great to see what you do with it :)

I haven't had a chance to carry this short Seax (by Jorgencraft) yet

This piece is actually really cool and special to me. There was an older gentleman that I use to work construction with and he has a forge. Me and him got to talking about pocket knives and fixed blades. And once he found out I had interest in them. A couple months later, he comes up to me with this knife. He made it himself in his forge out of a 3/4in steel rigging choker that was no good anymore. He cut it up and forged it into this blade. He used white oak handles from an old hog pin that was falling in on his property. And the sheath was some leather he found and fit it to the knife I know it’s not perfect but, this one means a lot to me and will be with me till the day I die.

I have a smaller Puronvarsi blade and that thing literally had my jaw on the floor the first time I put it to shaping some wood. That knife will get mind blowingly sharp and the geometry makes it an absolute wood wizard!

Work in progress. Since taking this picture I have bathed the cord in wood glue, wrapped it round the handle and let dry. I burned the wisps off and then I sanded the handle lightly. I will still do some finishing to the handle but already the the grip feels fine. Sheath is in the process.

Can't wait to see how it turns out! I've thought about trying something similar before but never got around to actually doing it. I saw a similar build several years ago with a jute-wrapped and epoxy-dipped handle like that and it looked awesome when it was all done.

let us know how this one progresses please

The thicker sisal cord mixed with wood glue was not a good idea. The cord left gaps in the handle material and the wood glue, when tested with wet hands, started dissolving. So I cut and ripped the cord off the wooden core. I wrapped the handle with two layers of thinner hemp cord as an experiment, not applying epoxy yet. This is the result, in my opinion much better. I will unwrap the handle and soak the cord in epoxy and then do the final wrap.

So this is what I made of the Puronvarsi blade. If anything I would call this a seax, not the broken back variety but something else. Hemp cord and epoxy handle (with birch plywood core), I would say it is hemp micarta. This is a learning experience, I try to make better next time.

Coolio, looks more like a Leuku, but not a scandi edge. Nice job.
