Let's see your good old basic fixed blades, Bowie's, Stickers, etc.

I don't know why it still surprises me when I surprise myself. I forgot all about this one, which is in pretty good shape , though modified: somebody ground the sides of the handle flat.

The pommel appears to be some kind of plastic.

Here's another favorite whittle-tang, a Kinfolks 315. Unfortunately, I liked it so well I took apart the handle and epoxied it back on, to seal it against rust. I carefully stacked the washers on a spindle in order of removal with the front sides up, but when I got to gluing it back together, I started saying, "That can't be right", and flipping and rearranging them.
It still cuts.

Nice distal taper with mild jimping:

I've made peace with the etymology of whittle, which comes from thwitel, which is realated to thwaite, meaning a clearing. Maybe the tang is so called because it is inserted into an opening in the handle, not because of any axe-like use.
Interesting the tang gave its name to the knife, though. "A Sheffield thwitel baar he in his hose."

That is an interesting name for them. That is nice Mr. Jack ....... I like fixed blades like your last two and the one Jer showed. I have a Case leather stacked that I am fond of. I need to take a picture of it some day. The leather got a lot darker brown after it got wet in a shallow river .... where a friend and I use to wade and fish. A few places we're deeper than my belt.

Maybe you need to buy one of those shocker devices and use it on Toolman's hind quarter ...... he seems to be a bit out of control these days. 🤣
I think it's a very old name Mr P :) Thank you, I'll dig out a few more to post. The one below is also Whittle-Tang, but it's known as a "Blood Holler" (Blood-Hollow) :D I should definitely do that with Tool Man! :D

I forget about all sorts of things Jer! :D That's a fine knife though

I can remember taking apart a fishing reel as a kid, everything shot in different directions, and I never could get it back together right! :D Those are Norse words I believe Jer, thwaite is very common here, in place-names such as Slaithwaite, Linthwaite, etc. I think the knife gets the name gets its name from the fact the tang has been thinned out, or whittled down, though originally it would have been forged like that of course

This is a larger Blood-Hollow. The Whittle-Tang Bowies are (along with a number of other patterns), are also known as 'Town Pattern' Bowies, because they were made, by different cutlers, all over Sheffield. Some of them were also known as '(Boy) Scout Knives' in England

Tool Man sold a William Rodgers out from under me the other week, the swine!

I cannot figure out how your fortunes cross the big pond !
I had me a handsome William Rogers fixed blade bought and paid for when I went to bed last night.
This morning I have an email apology that my payment was cancelled because the seller sold it at the Oregon Knife Show last weekend.
My first thought was to blame it on Toolman !!!
I bet that scoundrel Charlie scooped it up, was my second. ;) 🤣
He's probably fondling it at this moment. 🤔😊

That's disappointing Mr P :( There was no sheath with the William Rodgers Tool Man sold, but he sold it for £3! That's how much value he puts on our friendship! 😖😉

Lookin' at the bright side of the situation, at least he puts some value on yer friendship ................ however meager it seems to be. ;) 🤣
......... might as well laugh as cry Mr. Jack. 😊
Kaufmann K55 Skinner - Possibly the German name for this pattern is longer than the knife itself! ;)

That ole knife has a lot of character !😍

Thank you for the compliment on my Battle Bowie.😊

Looks like you're armed for trouble Mr P! ;) What's the story with that knife? :)

I picked up this Boker Plus/Midgards Messer Little Dvalin in the week

My late father served for the U.S. Navy during WWII. He had a KABAR MK2 issued, as well as a Remington 1911. I wish I had his, but, I don't think he came out of the service with it. ;) 😊

From the KABAR, Olean, N.Y. website:

The Red Spacer KA-BAR is arguably the most collectible KA-BAR Knife made during World War II. The distinct red spacer below the hand guard and above the leather washer has caught the eye of collectors for decades. Though originals are rare and expensive, KA-BAR’s State & Union shop has made a small batch of this iconic knife with the Dog's Head blade mark. The leather washers are shaped by hand and dyed to create an aged appearance. The pommel is ground down to replicate the dimensions of the original. Each red spacer is hand made to be slightly longer than the current spacer used on KA-BAR Fighting/Utility Knives. The blade is sandblasted, then cold gun blued. The sheath undergoes an ageing process to darken the leather and match the original sheath color.

This morning ...... I worked up the courage to drench the steel of my new dogs head with mineral oil and lightly rub it with Scotchbrite Ultra Fine. ( shows off the grinds )
I wiped it off and washed it. .............. I liked it yesterday ....... I like it a lot more today. 🤣

I like your little Boker quite a bit Mr. Jack.😍

the one with the big guard and the dog tang stamp ?

Ohh ok ..... I gotcha. Here is a direct link to the Dogs head. 😊 It is a fine knife, IMO.
The sheath that came with it was also USA made, but, left me wanting for more, so I ordered a custom sheath for it. ( maker's photo below)

I really feel like an idiot now.
I've heard of the dogs head, but always thought the dogs head Ka-bar was the version with the teardrop pommel.

You are right ....... they make one like that and call it Dogs head utility knife ....... so two doggies instead of one. 🤣 🤣

I think I am OK with linking these since Kabar participates here on the manufacturers forum. ;)😊
