Let's see your good old basic fixed blades, Bowie's, Stickers, etc.

Beautiful knife, timeless design doesn't look out of place today IMHO. And another wonderful photo.

Thank you Gordon and I agree with you about the timeless design. 😊

Thank you my friend :)

Thank you my friend, I very much agree with @OldHercDude , I'm not surprised you carried that knife on so many adventures

This one is nothing fancy, but I bought it in 1979, when I was 18, and carried it all over Europe and the Middle East. I bought it from an old Sheffield knife shop called Morton's. Stan Shaw did work for them, as did many Sheffield cutlers. My knife was made by a long deceased cutler named Stuart Mitchell, who many years later, and entirely by coincidence, made my U1 knife

I think the only Blackie Collins design I have is this Gerber Patriot, which was sent to me in the early 1990's.

Thank you Mr. Jack .......... at the age we were and my limited means in those days, one good hunting knife was all that was needed. I reckon it was the same for you at 18.

When I had that S&W out for it's first photo session ever, I was thinking back about the memories of trips I took with my son growing up .... all the taters and onions, or whatever needed cutting for a fine outdoor meal .... being cooked on a Coleman camping stove. I got hungry just thinking about the smell and tastes. We were normally set up in the woods, not far from a fishing lake. ;)😊

I love your old Sheffield hunter ............ it has a lot of character now ........ I bet it was a stunner when it was brand new ......... wood, brass, and steel fixed blades have always appealed to me.
I like that Gerber USA quite a lot too.:thumbsup:😍

Definitely my friend, and if I somehow got a second knife I liked better, I'd give the other away :)

Those sound like very happy memories Mr P :)

Thank you, yes, it was a looker when I was dazzled by it in the shop window! :D I think I paid £6.50 for it, which was splashing out a bit at the time! :D :) Thanks again :)

I was watching the new A Taste For Death last night, and wanting to offer Dalgleish my analysis that the multiple razor killer was a "thoroughly bad hat".

This is a William Rogers ("I Cut My Way").
Another good expression Jer :D When I first started school, our gang was called the 'Bad Egg Gang'! 🤣 I used to have one of those Jer, Eggington made them in the early 1990's with the William Rodgers mark. I acted as a consultant to a firm who were Eggington's biggest customer back then, and they gave me one of the knives. I said I was surprised that they weren't using the IXL mark, since they also owned that. I told them about a tale printed in one of the 'Knives' annuals, where someone claimed to have an IXL Bowie blade, which had been found at the site of the Alamo. They made up more knives with the IXL mark, further embellished the story, which I think they still use, and they sold like hot cakes! :D

The perfect belt knife does exist! I've had a small handful tried lately that just didn't work out. One was really disappointing. It happens. This one, though, is just a perfect fit for me. It is a good basic fixed blade for sure and very well done.

This knife arrived yesterday and is on its maiden voyage. Made by GL Drew, it is about 8" with a 3.5" blade. Hafted in Walnut with brass pins and black liners. It comes with a fantastic heavy leather sheath. It feels like it was made to fit my hand.

It doesn't even have a scratch on it yet but I'm itching to change that.

That looks impressive, I'm sure it'll be a great user :)

I had a small Seax forged by Jacek Robotka more than a year ago, but I don't think I've carried it more than once. I'm sure the sheath is historically correct, but it hangs far too low when worn on a regular belt (rather than a separate one). I need to work out how to carry it, and get another sheath made

That is an interesting looking blade, I've never seen one like it. The sheath too. Neat!

Hanging too low is something that bothers me.

On the one shown above, it looks like it would be a bit low but it's actually not too much. It is an 8" knife, but the way he did the belt loop is very nice. It keeps the sheath up high enough.

Thanks Rick, worn here, and in Europe and Scandinavia, for hundreds of years, over a shirt or tunic, at the front, edge-up. I can't walk around like that now though, I need to be more discreet! :D That is very nicely done :)

I have another Viking knife by the same maker

Ah now I understand! Very nice thank you

Yes, that would certainly draw some attention. There are not many restrictions on knives here. Pretty much anything goes unless it shoots a projectile. Still, though, a large belt knife gets some sideways looks. Wearing a viking knife like that would get people talking for sure.

My work shirts mostly cover any belt knives with the exception of the big old bowies, fighters or the BPS.

There is an exception here, when they have the annual Viking Festival in York, and the laws are completely relaxed. I was there some years ago, and some daft teenager, in Viking garb, nearly pranged me in the backside with a six-foot spear because he was carrying it horizontally, while texting on his mobile phone with the other hand! :D

I somehow converted that into a vision of your Dirk poking Toolman in the hind-end. ;) 🤣
The Knifeman to Toolman: X'cuse me ! 🤣🤣🤣

LOL! :D He occasionally gets a knife in with a job-lot of tools he buys, but they are usually pretty awful  However, I did get this one from him about 10 years ago, the O1 steel takes a superb edge :) When I got to the market, someone else was already looking at it, but the feller balked at paying £10 for it! 😵‍💫 His loss! ;) :D

I've had it a couple months, and have not sharpened or even stropped it, admittedly it does Not see any hard use. Tape and cardboard mostly, but the AEBl and the grind are holding a edge longer than I thought possible.
