Let's see your good old basic fixed blades, Bowie's, Stickers, etc.

I think they might have continued using this reproduction/ reissue label till sometime in the past 20 years because I have seen this label in the stock photo used by a few distributors.

The vinyl blade cover sure looks pretty modern to me, and I'm guessing that other person just thought 60's because of the label.

The knife itself just might be a special reissue or something.
I think they're still putting that paper label on a sheep-skinner with a tacked-on guard.
It is a couple of inches longer, but otherwise looks a lot like the Dexter-Russell 4215.
Thicker, too. I have one of those downstairs that I "improved" when I was a few decades younger.
"EDGE BRAND
I have one of those that I took on freshman orientation with me in 1974. Not exactly a slicer, but it gives you confidence.

I'm guessing '70s on my new GR, for not much reason. Maybe the early days of knife-quality stainless when serious people were still suspicious of it. (It isn't "stainless"; it's stain-free.)
I emailed the Dexter company to ask about it.

That Schrade sheath is not pretty, but it is good quality.
I got a few of them from a major southern e-tailer a long time ago.
You're right; they have strong, quiet coverings and sturdy liners, straps, and snaps. They don't retain a guardless knife very well, though.

Fingers crossed for the new one.

Was sent to the attic by Mrs. Bloefield for the ornament boxes as we're taking down the tree today. I found these in a old cardboard box instead and have not been any help to her since.
They must be my son's. Sorry for hurried pictures, I'm being called. There's some more too!

I think these are American bicentennial vintage. My vendor has a presentation box with this knife, a Dadley the same length (covet covet), and a big skinner with bicentennial shields and papers.
I haven't seen many, but I haven't seen a sheath for one yet. I wonder if they were marketing them in stain-free as classy kitchen knives.

Ya bet!

So where is it tight? Is there a welt? Sometimes if you look inside, (I often use a flashlight), ya can see a little dent in either the welt or the leather where it is tight. The dent is caused by the knife hitting it. See if ya can find this out. How we proceed from here is different depending on where's it's tight. We got one way for the welt and another for the rest of the sheath. But minimalist intrusion is better sop, its best to know where its tight.

My handle edges are scoring ski tracks right from the top of the throat. There's no welt. (It's a $13 sheath) The leather is hard and stiff, though.

I went ahead and tried wet-forming the sheath to make the throat the same shape as the handle so the handle doesn't have to wedge open the oval. I also flattened the back edge of the sheath to make more room for the breadth of the blade where it flares.
Never done this before. I hope I'm on the right track.

I'll leave it alone at least overnight. It might still be damp between the books in the morning.
Good thing I have other knives to play with.

And stearate! I can harden it with stearate!
