Let's see your good old basic fixed blades, Bowie's, Stickers, etc.

Who made that Woodlore? It's not an early Alan Wood is it?
I suspect it was someone's project, after buying the O1 blade Christian, but they did a good job, and it came with a decent sheath. Alternatively, it may have been purchased from a part-time maker at a game fair or something. I actually got it from Tool Man 10 years or so ago, he had bought it, with a load of tools, in a garage sale. I had just turned up early one morning, and a hippy type was looking at it. I was a bit annoyed that Tool Man hadn't set it aside for me, but the hippy decided he didn't want to pay £10 for it, because he reckoned he could make one for less! I snapped it up, and it was a bargain. Tool Man tried to haggle me down to £9, but I insisted on paying the full tenner! 😁👍

That looks like a lot of knife for £10. Great grab! I certainly couldn't make one for that price, it would cost more than that for the sheath material alone.

I was hoping it was an incognito Woodlore, used as designed. The hipsters that collect such things would be flummoxed to see a genuine Wood in that condition...🤣.

Yeah, got a bargain 😊 I think the hippy was talking rubbish 😁

I used to know Ray Mears, and spoke to both him and Alan Wood about the knife, which wasn't well-known at all then (the term 'bushcraft' hadn't yet been coined). Nor was Ray (it was Raymond then). Alan didn't think much to the design, and was surprised it sold. I dislike the lack of imagination that has seen it so widely copied. Still, it moved us on from the sharpened pry-bar 'survival knives' that were ubiquitous before that 👍

As if anyone could survive without ant jaws on their nail file and a signalling mirror in their handle!

LOL! 🤣 I was watching a YT video about Geronimo the other week, and was fascinated to learn of the role of heliograph stations in terms of military communications, something I hadn't previously been aware of

This is my dear departed Dad's Marbles hunting knife that I gently restored. Note the Bakelite pommel. The scabbard was later made for it with his initials. The original virtually dissolved Originally purchased in Rapid City North Dakota whilst he was on a hunting trip to Wyoming in 1952.
