Let's see your good old basic fixed blades, Bowie's, Stickers, etc.

I got this knife in a strange sheath in a GAW box. The kydex blade protector for it was pretty expensive, and the hanging gear for it would have doubled the price.
It must have been before I knew about BPS sheathes, and it may have been before there were BPS sheathes.

Interesting Jer, isn't that a stock ESEE sheath? 🤷‍♂️ TOPS do a leather dangler sheath, which'll accommodate the Mohawk Hunter, but it's half the price of the knife  Like you, I thought of BPS. When I got my Savage, I found the original sheath a bit narrow, so bought another, which I like much better

(Incidentally, the Savage has been on my kitchen knife rack for the past year)

The TOPS knife fits the original sheath for my BPS Savage. The fit is a little snug, but I'm hoping I can improve on that by wet-forming the sheath. Alternatively, I might just try some of my other BPS sheaths, and order a spare! :D

At some point though, I would like to get a better Kydex sheath made. I was very pleased by this one I got from a US Maker for a CS Roach Belly. I just need to find a maker that has a TOPS Mohawk Hunter! :D

Hickory, that crown does look perfect on your Bowie, like it was made just for it.

My most used stag handled fixer is this Boker USA carver in stainless steel, probably 1.4112 which is similar to 440B. An excellent slicer.

My granny's Joseph Rodgers carving set has very similar handles Jeff :) I don't use the knife very often, but I use the sharpening steel all the time

Yup, that's the ESEE sheath, but there's nothing to hang it on your belt. The bit of paracord came off my UTK S5, the sheath for which does have a belt clip.

Yes, I need to get a spare or two of the BPS sheathes. They're so often just the thing. I have at least a half dozen of them in use.

There seems to be a lot of add-on extras with the ESEE knives!

I was just looking at their website Jer ;)

That's handy mate, I have several knives with no sheaths, and several sheaths with no knife! 🙄

Arathol, I have one of those knives in the second photo, actually several of them but not with those very thin birch bark washers. I do have a similar knife but with a brass bolster, no guard, and the same very thin birch bark washers. Must have taken a while to stack all those thin washers. John

Knives with birchbark handles were common for centuries as most puukko makers used it and still do today. Its the signature handle material for knives from Finland. Jarvenpaa made and still makes knives of all sizes with birchbark handles.

About 6 min into this video you can see how they were made.
The guy is Finnish master knife maker Kustaa Lammi

Really like that puukko in the second photo. I have a modern puukko made by Pekka Tuominen, which also has quite fine birch bark washers. Bought that video on a trip to Finland, some years back. John

I still have subtle sanding on my handle, and some clean up.....it's a little bit of old, and not as old. I think it fits in Here in traditional's....as I salvaged the handle material from a 1940's welder that got scraped.
I think it's paper micarta? Idk? Maybe the second stinkiest vintage micarta that I've ground. Handmade aluminum and bronze hardware.

I'm liking this beast, it's designed as an EDC 7" tool steel blade. ""Urban Butcher"
