Let's see your good old basic fixed blades, Bowie's, Stickers, etc.

Here's the neat part. They are both W36 models but 1 is marked "D" (Denver?) and the other "G" (?). They also have slightly different grip lengths and pommel shapes.

I found this: "In 1978 Western started placing date codes on their knives. This coding is as follows and continued into the 21st century. A=1977, B=1978, and so on, G being 1983."

Thank you!!!!! So they're an '80 and '83!!! :)

Nice Blackjacks! I've had my eye out for one like the top model you have pictured for quite a while. I have one stag handled Effingham model (1-7), but it doesn't have the saber grip like yours. Very nice!

I'll second that, Steve. Nice Blackjacks! Been meaning to get one for myself, I like the single guard like the top one in your photo. That stag handle is great!

I've been dreaming about putting this hunting duo together for some time...

That is a beautiful pair Bruce! The Loveless style is one I'm craving, but Bark River makes so many beautifully functional knives it's hard to choose!

Thanks, Barry. I have to agree about the Loveless. The overall size, the balance, and the extremely comfortable, contoured handle make it one of my favorite knives to have on my hip in the woods (this is my second one...;) ). And it has just enough guard without being too much.

And while I have skinned anything with the Wolf River yet, I have been using it in the kitchen and camp, and it is slicey as all get out, with a similarly contoured handle.

Encouraged by Tom Williams, aka CAMCO, I started my hunt for Black Beauties. It has been a fun hunt and I continue to look for better examples (and also the axes and knife/axe combo). Here are the knives:

Al, those are great! Always been a fan, never picked one up... You've inspired me, now I'm going to have to start looking! :D

Bruce, those two are an unbeatable pair! I really love my Wolf River, and if you plan to use yours for skinning/processing, you're in for a real treat.

You bet I do! This is gong to be my "go to" pair for deer, elk, bear, etc. Now I just need to get out there and make it happen! :D

Cool! In that case, I suspect that you'll fall head-over-heels with that upswept blade. It's my favorite for skinning and butchering deer. I haven't hunted anything larger, but I imagine it will be well up to the task.

Thanks Barry and Alex! Some beautiful knives, Steve!

And there's not much you couldn't dress out with that combo of Bark River knives... very nice!

Thought I should add the old skinner I picked up in Sheffield the other week to this thread.
