Let's see your homemade or modified gear

This is a little pouch I made for cowboy shooting

Are they in season now?

This one is a 'keeper!' Very well made! Momma must be a beautiful woman!

Sorry, but I don't have any photos of the skiving knife in use, but it's just like using a regular skiver, only left handed. I made the blade wider because I can't seem to skive a long, even strip with a narrow skiver. I thought this would solve the problem. It doesn't. :(

Thanks Stitchawl, and yest Momma is a beauty as well. I definitely married up. :-)

Haven't plaid with skiving yet but definitely need to. I've sort of put the leatherworking on the back burner since two girls seem to take at least 36 hours a day to take care of. LOL

Here's Leah (wife), Nevalin (oldest girl) and Gracie on a recent trip to Cades Cove.

This is me with my girls. Always thought I wanted boys but I sure do love the girls.

Didn't mean to hijack my own thread but can't help but show off. LOL

Here's a few other leather items I've made. I did more of this back when I was doing the Cowboy thing.

Charlie, you sure did! Nice looking family!
Hey listen... don't make the mistake I did. I had a beautiful baby boy once. But I made the mistake of feeding him and he grew up! :grumpy:

Keep 'em young and small. They're cuter that way! My 'baby' is 33 now, out-skis me on the mountain, out-cooks me in the kitchen, and attracts more pretty wimmen than I do!

I really like that Celtic Knot Barret. I'd make one but my son won't wear it, and the only hair I have these days long enough to use one is in my ears. Are the cowboy cuffs lined, or did you just turn over the leather on the end?

Stitchawl

Stitchawl,

I've heard they're like that one movie, feed them after midnight and they turn into gremlins. LOL

I love my wife to have long hair, she's not so sold on it, so I make lots of barrettes and such for her to get her to keep it longer for me. Gives me some needed leatherworking practice too.

The cuffs are lined with pigskin. They were fun to make and suprisingly not as hard as I thought they would be. I sold them along with most of my cowboy leather when I got out of that sport. I do make the occasional sheath now and then and would love to have the time to get back into it more. That will come as they girls get older but I'm not hurrying it along.

I am just starting to make my own gear. I just started at the beginning of the month, I have made a few knife sheaths and a holster for my Kahr PM9. When I get some more time, I will be making some more holsters for my different guns.

This is the second sheath I made it's for my Buck Vanguard.

This is the third sheath I made and it is for my primary bushcraft blade, a Bark River Aurora.

I would show pictures of the first I made but that is currently with my buddy in Colorado on a elk hunt.

thanks j williams. I have been doing leather for a little while now. I can really see the difference in my work now. I have a quiver I made a few years ago hanging on the wall in my shop. I always think" wow I made that" he he

Zen Grasshopper,

Great looking Kydex. I especially like the setup for the Aurora. Do you have a pic of the the firesteel loop? That's something I'm going to have to try soon.

Nothing as cool as you guys stuff, but I did knock up this little bench the other day to sit on with a cup of tea when the sun comes out !

Pitdog,

That bench looks great. I love that you whipped up some reading material for it too. :-)

Charlie

Spooky, you've don some nice work, bro! I really like it! Could you tell me what the Mora knife is ?It looks really nice :)
Pitdog - that bench is awsome!!!
I have plenty of wood material and will try to make something like this :)

Thanks man! The red handled mora is a 510, definitely one of my most favorite blades. The knife in the top pic is also a Mora, but it's a #1 with a leather 'sock' sort of. All that stuff in that pic was actually a present to my stepdad, but currently resides in one of his arrowhead cases.

Now that's a great present!
The number 1 is a great blade.I have a number 2 and love it!
Is that 510 a discounted model or something ?
I cant find it here in Bulgaria...

Spooky,

Your stuff looks great. I love the pouch and the 510 sheath. If you look at the gear that actual mountain men and cowboys carry, it was quite plain and very practical. They couldn't afford, not would they trust fancy. It usually didn't hold up.

Hmm... I'm actually not sure about the situation for this blade across the pond! It's available here in the states for sure, but I don't think shipping it all the way to you would be wallet-friendly. Is shipping any easier from another place in europe for you?

Thanks a bunch amigo! It's help up well for me so far. I intend to make another small leather pouch w/ clip, like the one I gave away. I like the idea.
