Lot`s of nice work guys. I really liked Tor`s birch bark box. I`m afraid I left most of my gear in the states when we got married. I`m gonna have to get back in the habit of making a few things. The wife`ll hate it, but it`ll keep me out of trouble.

Wotan,

Nice stuff. Love the wood bowls and the birch bark container. How big is the container?

How different is bark tanned leather from vegetable or brain tanned leather?

I'm late to this party and make a bunch of homemade gear. I just got some pics of my stove/cup set up, so I figured I should share.

My pot/cup is some sort of tin I picked up at a thrift store. It holds about 25oz of liquid. I paracord wrapped a handle on it which was recycled from and another project, same with the lid handle. I had to put some heat resistant tape around the base of my paracord wrap because of fear of melting my cord.

The primer plate is the base of a small can. The windscreen is a fosters beer can. I got the fuel container at a thrift store for a whopping $0.69 and it works great and all fits together nicely.

The stove is made from a couple of 16oz aluminum bud bottles and I have included my original blueprints, slight mods have been done since I drew those up. It is extremely heavy duty and blows pepsi can stoves away. The stove works awesome and I can boil 2 cups of water in under 6 minutes with 3/4 oz of fuel (heet).

enjoy.

Charlie

The container is about 7 inches high and about 2 inch by 4 inch by the lid.

I don`t know the difference between bark tanned and brain tanned as I`ve never made braintan. Bark tanned leather is the norm over here.

PS. I believe bark tanned is veg tanned.

Nothing as cool as you guys stuff, but I did knock up this little bench the other day to sit on with a cup of tea when the sun comes out !

That's the coolest thing I've seen in this thread so far. I'm a big fan of natural chairs, tables, benches, etc. I've already warned the wife that when we have a house out in the less developed area of GA, there will be no shortage of natural furniture on the property. Pretty much anywhere I think has a good view, has a good cool shady spot, needs a shooting bench, whatever, there will be furniture made from whatever is around. ;)

That is awesome. I assume that you carved this then used sandpaper to get it smooth. Did you coat this with sealer before use?

By the way, I found my next project.
