Let's see the main knives you use in the bush. Which are your favorite and why?
I have three favorites. The first is my Aitor Oso Blanco. This one is fairly new to my collection. It's a great chopper. The blade design seems to be just right for that purpose and it has a comfortable grip. Second is my SOG Seal 2000. This knife does what ever other knife that I have does. I pretty much like it because it's seven inches of kick ass. Third is a pre 1967 Camillus Pilots survival knife. It's a lot better made than the newer models and I like it because it lasts. Even outlasted the sheath. I had to find a replacement.

I rotate through my mid sized blades so much I'd have to post the entire collection.

But the one I use most beating brush in the backyard and camping is the Khukhri House Bahadur.

Right now it's probably these fellows:

the 510:

and this guy:

I also just got a Vic Farmer which is now my EDC and will be in my pocket whenever I'm in the woods. A new KaBar Heavy Bowie will be a big user as well, I just haven't been able to make time for it yet.

Spooky, how do you like that Tora? They had some on a DOTD recently and they looked pretty nice.

Well, I actually wasn't very happy with it as it arrived. There really was no edge whatsoever, and even if one had been present the bevel was too thick to allow it to cut. Luckily a very kind and knowledgeable gentleman with a belt sander fixed it up for me, and it cuts like a demon with the (much) thinner bevel. The steel is great on it, and I like the design, but it will take some work from how it is sent.

Thats a nice knife!
How thick is it and did you have to reprofile it?

Ilbruche,

I have the Bahadur also, and I think this is a great chopper. Does the little square notch at the base of the blade bother you ? I have read where some folks shy away from squared off places because of the liklihood of developing a stress riser. As thick as this blade is, I don't think it is that big a deal but I would like to here the opinion of other owners.

That's the North Star:

Nice little blade for walkin' around the woods.

Ok, Aurora vs Northstar vs Mini Northstar. Your thoughts? Anyone who owns these please chime in. These seem built on a traditional bushcraft-like pattern and yet are FAR less $.

Thanks guys!

Rockywolf:
Don't know about the Aurora or the Mini NS,but the other two Barkies I have in the same general size/style at the moment are the Highland Special:

And the Fox River:

All of them are surprisingly stout for blades of that size.
They're sharp enough that you don't have to pound on them to get them to split branches & such.
I have a Nebula on its way here,i think it's in the same general size & shape as the Aurora, only in 12C27 steel.
Should be here Monday or Tuesday.
It'll get a workout when it gets here.

How do you like that Highland Special? Work well for woodwork? I really like the looks of that model, amongst several others. :)
