hey jestyr,
can you share how you put that spyder into the handle? i love it. too bad i wasn't around when they had the military forum model with the pearl spyder in the handle. i would've gobbled it up.

first i called up sfo and begged them for a few of the spyders they used to make the Centofante 3's. then i took one of them and used a very (VERY) small amount of superglue and glued it to the carbon fiber. then i took a needle and scratched out an outline. after that i popped the spyder off and started to dremel out some of the cf (be sure to have a respirator). after that was done, i just re-superglued it into the recess.

Guys this is great! This thread is working out just as I had hoped. I haven't done any mods to my knives but I was looking for some ideas. From what I have seen, some of you guys have real talent!

The two that really grab me are the Ti CJ and the Rescue that had the tip re-ground. I'm thinking about doing something like that to my Rescue now. I love Spydercos and keep getting more and more of them but there is something really cool about having a custom one. If I had the talent and the skill of some of you guys, I could mod my nearly perfect Spydercos until they were even closer to perfect. I've never had a perfect knife and that is why I keep buying them. Even if I had a perfect knife, I would think of something that could be improved.

Oohhh, let's see here,

The old Harpy that was too mangled to save, and Jestyr here gave me the idea with his design. This one was done years ago:

Then of course the Crickets. Gosh I love those things:

Nice Endura II with bloodwood scales and handmade mosaic pins:

Another Harpy with lacewood:

And of course the Thuya Burl "Twins"

Too bad I got rid of most of these to finance many other acquisitions (most of them Spyderco).

Wow! those are some awesome work. I love seeing that kind of artistry.

Here is another Calypso Jr. upgrade from me. Just packed it up to mail home but took these scans before doin that. These pics show number two sitting with my number one.

Number two is the property of a forum member here that saw mine and wanted his done similar to it only not so thick this time. The plan was so he can install scales on it himself. Hopefully it will be posted here when he puts his hand made scales on it.

Hi HARDKISS seems that the system won't let me email you as you've declined to receive messages. If you're still interested in having any engraving done you can contact me either via this forum or via my website www.hunt-engraving.co.uk. Thanks, Marcus

SMCFALLS13 That knife handle is just begging for a checkering job! What a beautiful piece of wood, a checkerers dream!
Thanks guys for those of you who mentioned me in your posts! I do work mainly on rifles, but also love to work on other things like bows, knife handles, duck calls etc. If anyone would like to visit my site, the address is www.checkering.com, just click on "Photos" to see some of my work for pattern ideas.

Thanks again!

Vess or Jestyr, what dremel bit did you utilize for your "lightning engraving"?

thanks for any reply

I used a diamond coated needle-shaped bit in a regular handheld dremel tool. It's even easier if you have a flex-shaft attachment, but I did mine without it, having it just allows for much more control. The diamond coated bits cut much easier on the blade, which is why I used it, and don't tend to "run" around the surface. The whole Harpy took less than 40 minutes with no planning whatsoever.

Vess, that Endura is amazing! Are the scales inlayed or onlayed over an existing SS handle, or are they entirely new handle scales?

Great work on all of them, but that Endura just does something for me... it's so simple and elegant.

Just scales on the original handle, though I think I drilled little depressions on the front side of the handle for the mosaic pins to sink into. Can't be sure though, it's been a while.

And yes, the serrated blade with filework on top looks decidedly carnivorous. It was really disturbing on the Harpy: teeth along the blade, and smaller teeth along the spine.

I got one of Vess' customized Crickets. The Aboyna Burl scale on it is quite attractive, and the polishing that he did on the blade over the filework really sets that off as well.

Did you do the jimping on the back of the Endura's blade? If so, how did you do it?
