Let's see your Peanuts & their Patinas

Here's mine. Belonged to my grandfather. Not sure how old it is, but I carry and use it daily since he passed.

Very nice Matador! My grandfather's Schrade Walden knife is pictured in my avatar.

Those delrin scales look identical to the ones on my 1978 (2 dot) stockman. How many dots are under the U.S.A. stamp on the blade tang?

Hmmm. Someone smarter than me will be along to answer. The tang stamp which it appears to me in your picture to have is this:

CASE XX
U.S.A.

That would be 1970s. But I'm not sure what the no dots means. 10 dots represents 1970, down to 1 dot representing 1979.

This might help

I'm thinking 1965-1969? Can't see full tang from pic

I just wiped it down and gave it look see under the USA with a magnifying glass and it appears to have one dot. It's really worn there, but I'm pretty sure it is. Thank you all for the help. BTW, it bit me while I was looking. :) Thank you Doug!! The dot is dead center under the "S".

Thanks Pete, for the chart. I was focused on the '70s because the stamp and delrin look like my 1978 stockman. I forgot about the 1965-1969 similar tang stamp with no dots.

Glad you got it figured out Matador!

Thank you Stich2442. I'd been carrying this for years and gave it a never mind until I stumbled onto this end of the forum. Think I'll stick around. :)

Not a problem at all glad I was a little help, this is a good place to be, nice peanut, nice to have something from a family member.

I just took it out for a re-shoot with a close up and it looks to be a two dot. Thank you again, Stich2442 and Doug Add. Case closed :)

After slicing a midnight snack (okay, an after midnight snack) of a couple apples, the clip blade has a bit more gold and blue in the patina. May not show up so well in the picture, but I kinda like this look.

Doug, that is a great photo, you captured the subtle S curve of the handle so perfectly!

Looks to be 2008, as per the Case chart Stich2442 posted above-- each of five dots removed through 2005, three x's removed (leaving two) brings you to 2008.

Beautiful knife, indeed.

My two CV nuts:

The brown on the tangs of the chestnut bone isn't rust, just a combination of the light and the way the tang has rubbed oil into the patina, I guess.
