Lets see your PURSES gentleman

Esav,
I've been looking at the pack-rat and the BDU pocket organizer for a while now, and have been meaning to pick one up. I keep getting sidetracked with other bag purchases( an M-2, Rt35,...). Thanks for putting me back on track! :)

Thanks alot guys...because of you, I had to buy a new Filson small field bag :D

Medium suits me, the small is a little too small, but if that's all you need

Well, the small fits most of my stuff pretty well, however it's a bit more unorganized than my Fatboy. I currently carry a 32oz Nalgene (though I may downsize to a 16oz), a Palm Tungsten E in a neoprene case, a Coach change wallet, a Coach business card holder, a deck of playing cards, a readers digest, my small Sebenza, my Schrade Spitfire, an AG Russell featherlite, a Surefire E1 or G2, my wool gloves, and lastly usually my Filson Packer wallet. The only thing that I don't like is that the map compartment can't carry a full sized magazine like Blade and the like. Otherwise, it's a great bag...but it needs a slightly longer shoulder strap. I'm about 6'2 and the bag hangs right at my belt line if I wear it across my chest. If it's just over my shoulder, it's at the proper height though. Does the medium have a longer strap? Even though it is short, I really like the looks of the belt like strap...very stout. How do you carry yours?

I've had a blast going through this thread. I got my first "Purse" about ten years ago, thinking that it may come in handy for plane trips. I picked up an item similar in design to the L.L. Bean that Ron Anderson showed, but nowhere near the quality. Before long I was throwing it in the car for trips, and finally taking to work everyday. Two years ago I looked for a new one but couldn't find one with some of the features I was used to but I did get another inexpensive facsimile. I still favor my old beat up one:rolleyes:

Jazzman, the strap on the Med Field Bag is 51" oal full extended, I keep it at 48" over my left shoulder and the bag hangs on my hip just right. I'm 6' even but have short legs (my 6'2" younger brother and I are the same height sitting next to each other). I believe that Filson will provide a longer strap, you would only need a longer buckle end so it should only cost an arm, not an arm and a leg ;)

I've got a black Thermite on the way, which I'll stick my Cellphone, zippo, Al Mar SERE, Spec-Ops T.H.E. wallet, and Glock 33 inside (when I get my CCW on my 21st birthday). I'm currently in the market for a 1 or 2 cell flashlight to stick in the thermite, and have been combing this, and the candlepower forums for a good canidate.

Speaking of the thermite, does the drop legcarry feel comfortable? Seeing how nobody is really a fan of the shoulder carry, I was either going for the waist, or drop leg.

Haha. Wow, handy! Very informing. Now all I have to do is decide between the Surefire 6P or the Inova X5 :)

E2e with KL1 if you really must have an led. :)

Nah, an L4 with a spare KL1 head is the way to go in your kit bag ;)

StJames, Will the KL1 work with the L4? The surefire site doesn't list the KL1 as an accessorie for the L4, but my fingers are crossed that you or someone will say that it will work... If it is compatible and works, I'M SOLD on the L4! :D

Why would you want to be a KL1 on an L4? Extended run-time?

Right now I'm leaning toward the 6P, but that E2e looks like it would fit better in my thermite, and it's only 19 dollars more.

Back to bags gents ;) St.James, I can see why you always give Filson plugs, this bag is truly top notch! Top quality workmanship, plus it just looks great. I'm getting used to the shorter strap and having the strap down flap instead of a buckle like my Fatboy. I just wish that the 2 side pockets closed instead of my knife always slippin' out.

You betya, the L4 is just an E2E with the 5w LED head. And yes, Namagomi, extended run time is the correct answer! Great combo, I keep the KL-1 in a film container with some foam padding and I'm good to go.

Back to bags! Jazzman, snap down flaps on the side pockets would be sweet, I use one as a watch pocket (on a chain) and the other gets the cell phone. I like the open back pocket, that's where I keep the book or magazine I'm reading.

I also have one of the Filson Large Outfitter Bags, the lower compartment is great for boots and wet/dirty gear. You can fill it with much more stuff than you can carry, but now we are starting to talk luggage...

Good Evening All-

It seems that everyone has some pretty good things to say about the Maxpedition bags...whether Thermite, Proteus, or Fatboy.

One of my concerns is staying very low-profile in suburban to urban environs. I prefer that my carry-alls don't scream "gun/knife" or the dreaded silly T-word...ta-ta-ta...tactical.

My typical carry isn't particularly enormous...typical stuff like cellular phone, folding knife, energy bars, pens, keys, SureFire flashlight, and the occasional pistol.

With this in mind, does anyone have a picture of either a khaki or black Maxpedition Proteus in use? Is it safe to say this is one of the more "normal-looking" pouches they offer? Thanks for the insights...this has been a FANTASTIC thread!

Blue Jays,
I think that they all look pretty normal in the scheme of things. I carry my Fatboy and usually people don't even notice...or think that it's a camara bag, etc. I think that a lighter color would be even less tactical looking.

I'll be carrying mine in the same places, but most often when traveling, as the thermite gives a good place to stick a tickets, passport, cellphone, and large wallet with greater security and ease than just sticking everything all over a pair of pants.

I chose black because, well, it's my favorite color. Being a scrub 20-years-old, I have no chance of looking 'tactical' thank goodness, but if black isn't for you, Maxpedition has thermites in untactical khaki, olive drab.
