Let's see your Traditional Case knives, old to new.

I picked this 6318 up on eBay last week. I think it is 2012 vintage? I thought I had a Case in my "collection", but they were cheaper jigged plastic traditional knives. I asked the seller if there was any blade rub or proud blades and they said no. The spey rubs on the sheepsfoot and the sheepsfoot is proud. I bought it to use it, so I'm keeping it. Photos here to document it before it gets PATINA. Then I may grab a 47 pattern in delrin from my nearby Case outlet.

Great looking 6318. You might ask your e way seller for a partial refund credit since they either didn’t know enough to know you were asking about or directly lied to make a sale.

seller said they would refund. My first knife purchase on eBay. I thought I might be the one guy on here that didn't get the blade rub. My fault for not asking enough questions. Seller said blade rub is normal and sheepsfoot is intentionally proud. We just weren't operating on the same specification sheet. I will just feel better about using it and scratching it up myself.

b-crow b-crow If you like that 18 you might be making a mistake to send it back. It is a nice example and has the discontinued CV steel to boot which makes it more valuable.

The middle blade of a stockman is often proud. However, when the blades are closed, the tip is nestled below the blades on either side of it and cannot poke you. Take a look at my XX era Red Bone. The spey blade in the middle is proud. In fact, it has to be proud. Otherwise, the nail nick would be inaccessible. But when all the blades are closed, it is effectively no longer proud. In other words, the surrounding blades made it near impossible for the proud tip to be dangerous. No one is going to carry a stockman around with the outer blades opened as in my first photograph. Not all stockman are built this way. Some have middle blades that are not proud, but many do. I do not believe it is a defect. At least not in my opinion.

As far as blade rub goes. If that bothers you, then a stockman is probably not a knife you should buy. Unless you treat a stockman with kid gloves there will almost certainly be some blade rub somewhere. Stockman are designed for use.

If you got a super deal on that 18, send me a message. I might be interested.

I'm not sending it back. I will be using it. It's in my pocket right now...

Once it gets used and attains patina, any rub or scratches appear much less significant on carbon blades. Most CASE knives have very good action if oiled and used and become rewarding users in short measure.
Here is an old beauty that fits your description, Will!! Very good action - pulls about 7.5, well patina-ed, nicely pocket worn - just wonderful for an approximately 75 year old Case knife!!med stock 6332 A.jpg
Case XX, 6332 Medium Stockman @ 3 5/8"!! ca. 1950!! 👴

(pendant - Indigenous-carved Caribou vertebral slice!! Beads - Venetian-made; found in a stash from the Northern B.C Fur Trade!!)
