Let's see your Traditional Case knives, old to new.

Case XX USA 6220 Peanut c.1965-69

I'm really loving this 60's 6318HE. I love the snap of the old Case knives and the pile on this one is that sweet red bone that makes you drool all over (my photographing skills are too poor to catch it though). The mark side is a bit damaged and the knife itself has a few smaller flaws, that's why I don't feel bad at all for using it.

Wow, now that's a beauty if there ever was one! That jigging must be very delicate, considering the size of the peanut.
Thanks, ISKRA! It would seem so, but it's not really any different than on the other knives.

The 18 is a great pattern... very pocket friendly even with dress pants. I love the snap on the old ones, too!

I'm 100% with you on this knife. My 1973 6318HE is far, far nicer than my 1980. Thinner, more elegant, and the tapered bolsters are wonderfully nice both in the hand and in the pocket. For being the same pattern, they're almost completely different knives. The newer one is hardly a large knife, but it feels so much chunkier than the older ones.

That might be one of the last 70s-era bone-handled 42s (at least, it looks like bone to me). According to Steve Pfeiffer, in Collecting Case Knives, he's never personally seen one dated after 1972. It's a beauty for sure!

Thanks MerryMadMonk!

I've actually acquired this rare piece from Steve last year. It's actually a 62042, sorry, Redbone according to his description and it is hard to find!

That and the gamble concering the f%f of the newer Case knives is what's keeping me from getting any. I apreciate their stainless backsprings and bone to bolster transitions. I have a peanut (brought over by a friend) and muskrat (a gift from jc57) that are both great but since I live in Europe it's too much of a hassle to buy them sight unseen. I would buy a cv texas jack or medium stockman with square bolsters but I'm afraid to. Their rounded bolsters are too blocky for my taste anyway. I like a lot of modern Case knives but the older ones are becoming a bigger and bigger delight for me.
