Let's see your traditional mammoth and/or ivory

Case XX Doctor's Knife, Brian Yellowhorse, Blue Mammoth Ivory. Just have this sitting here. Not really a big fan of Yellowhorse knives. They are a bit too fancy for my taste. Not really sure what practical use I would have for a Doc knife either.

You know, with all the hoopla re' the U.S. government's oncoming banning of ivory, the probable mistaken inclusion of
"pre-ban" ivory and the inability of any government official to tell the difference between elephants, mastodons and walruses, maybe publishing, for the world to see, one's genuine ivory collection is not such a good idea.

Just sayin' .

.

The ban will only affect the international and interstate commercial sale and trade in ivory, not the possession of artifacts made with ivory. So, der not comin t take r nives. Skip down to page 28 and 29.

I'm not sure that jives with the way things have already occurred, as antique musical instruments have been confiscated at the Canadian border, bagpipes specifically. Owners crossed the border to play in a contest and had the pipes confiscated bringing them back into the U.S.

They got them back, but it was a hassle and they had to prove the ivory was pre-ban.

My point was the potential lack of understanding and over-zealousness on the part of the Border Patrol and Customs Agents.

No, they aren't coming to our homes, but how many here sell ivory handled knives across State lines?

I own zero, so it matters not to me.

Every once and while, the 'knife gods' smile upon its followers. I just got this BNIP Fremont in EI. The color and texture are amazing, it's my favorite traditional folder, to date.

Solid black mammoth? Wow!!! Rare coloring on this beauty. Super as always John

Thanks, it's more of a dark blue in person, the photo is a little dark. Picked up at a show, it was my first custom slipjoint purchase in 10 years, my wallet has gotten thinner ever since. Another of my favorites worthy of this thread.

John, I have said it before but it bears mentioning again, you have some stunning knives. That ivory on that Zscherny is amazing! And that Chamblin piece hold so much appeal.

Thought I would bring this thread back from the deep - here's a few of my ivory examples I've been fortunate enough to acquire.

John Lloyd, my favorite folder - this one gets used & carried fairly regularly, it's been resharpened several times:

A smattering of Madison Barlows - ignore the cocobolo & camel bone!

Another user, a Fremont in EI:

All of these are Mammoth Ivory:
