Let's see your yard sale/flea market finds

It all depends on how old that is, they made that format and used that packaging I believe almost up until 2000 if i remember right.

Found this one at a farmers market for $5 for the head, it says made in Sweden with a crown and GAB has a 4 stamped on the same side on the other side it just says made in Sweden . yes the head is four pounds and it goes through seasoned oak like its butter. I put a 24 inch cruiser handle on it.

Incredible find! Gransfors Bruks. I found a 3.5lb GB double bit at a yard sale for $12, but you've got me beat. That is really awesome! Mine is great, I'm sure you'll love it.

I would sell or trade it I want to get a user GB small forest axe and would rather let a collector get this one. This is about the Norlund not the double bit axe.

Today I went to 3 yard sales. picked up a Spyderco Civilian early version with the g2 stainless and the aluminum handles in brand new condition with the padded pouch : 15 bucks, a Benchmade 9000 AFO switch blade in brand new condition: 20 bucks, and a scarab knock off with no markings, but with great action in great condition: 10 bucks. I also found an awesome vintage military looking fighting knife with no markings for a dollar and cleaned it up, blade thickness is over 8 1/2 of an inch thick.

Here are pics at ebay and craigslist.

has anyone found axes at goodwill?

I missed this question before, I think; I've found two over the last year-&-a-half. One is a nice double-bit axe (re-handled a long time ago) and the other is a Plumb hatchet. I'll see if I can get decent pics later. We have a Hospice Thrift store here that usually gets a lot of estate items. Some days it looks like a pioneer wagon train exploded in there.

Fantastic M3mphis. I never can find things like this. Part of it is living in a city I'm sure. I just have to envy you guys that can find treasures.

You might be surprised by what people have in the towns and cities. The cost is having to troll through dozens of typical garage and yard sales, littered with the usual glassware, stained clothing, and aged books and tapes. My policy is to driveby garage and yard sales to gauge quality, but to seek out Estate sales. Estate sales are where you can find the workshop or tool shed or knife drawer where unappreciated treasures are found and often overlooked by the professionals who focus on furniture.

I have to agree. My wife and I used to have an antique business and traveled all over to buy our wares. We found a lot of items but Colorado has always proven to be poor pickings or priced so high you could not afford it. We always did better in Kansas, Indiana, etc. When we got a long way out in eastern Colorado or small towns in western Colorado, we did much better. My wife loves garage sales and I find a little something every once in a while. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the compliments fellas. I'm definitely no expert at "yard saleing." I just lucked upon that little Norlund. The guy had a float tube sitting out front, so I looked around and found that hatchet and a really nice, large camp cookware set that has never been used. I was totally stoked for hours after finding it. My wife was laughing at me the whole time! :)

Power Kraft axe 10 dollars. I don't know much about this axe. Powerkraft was a house brand for Montgomery Wards department store, but it was probably forged by one of the big axe makers of the day.

Thanks, I'll be re-hafting it and cleaning it up soon. I'm in the Santa Cruz Mountains, a small range that runs from Santa Cruz to San Francisco. We're about half way between the two cities.

I think the Powr Kraft is worth keeping as it is. Plenty of good heads with bad handles out there, not so many with original handle. Nice find either way.

The handle actually has a pretty severe curve to it. Are there any tricks to straighten out a warped handle? The bent handle is so annoying to me I'll have to re-haft unless I can straighten it, value be damned.
