Lets talk GEC!

This Tidioute #55 Hound Tooth was my first knife from the folks at Great Eastern Cutlery. I bought it in 2014 shortly after joining BladeForums. It was the beginning of the slipping and sliding down the preverbal Slippery Slope. We started attending the GEC Rendezvous in 2015 and that just added fuel to the fire. Now I’m going to say something that probably doesn’t make a lot of sense to y’all. I actually don’t know how many I have. It actually doesn’t make sense to me either! Maybe someday soon I can rectify that issue.

I understand Ron !!!

Harry

I was going debut and use my first GEC ever at the 2020 Rendezvous. All these years of collecting and I have never carried a GEC. Well that got cancelled so I have to carry the Case XX pen knife or the Schrade USA 61 OT for another year. After 43 years of working in the field I now have an office position so I only need a big knife for hunting, fishing, and camping.
I'm debating an 06, 14, 15, 66, or a 68 as an EDC. Any input will be appreciated.

In that size class, could I suggest you consider the 62 courthouse splitback whittler. It will cover anything you need and slip into the pocket and disappear. That is if you can get over losing the collector value of this highly sought after version.

Wow, that is a very impressive collection of tubes! I obviously don't have the collector mentality, but you've bought all of those and never used one knife? Is that the GEC retirement plan? Probably as good as any, at this point!

Fwiw, I like the 15 as EDC of the ones you listed. Great size, great blade to handle ratio.

Will , I would go with the BIGGEST BLADE that your employer allows in wood or jigged bone . 78's are nice EDC's . Great Collection of Tubes my friend .

Harry

Harry,

My employer doesn't care about size and I'm no longer working at the Government facility so I have my freedom back. Wood or bone is my thing. I have very little micarta or acrylic. Just a personal choice. Due to the virus I have been working from home for 9 of the last 10 weeks. I kind of like that. Funny you mentioned the 78. I just obtained two of those this morning in cocobolo. Hope to have them by the weekend. Be well.

Will

 Wow...impressive!

Thanks!

All those tubes, how could you pick just one to carry?! I say carry ‘em all! ;) :D

And I thought I had a Large Knife Budget .
Just Northfields : Not up to date though

Harry

I’ve slowed down quite a bit the last couple years, Harry. :D Good looking group of Northfields, look at all that beautiful stag!

My Small but Mighty GEC collection...

That’s a nice group of knives, John!

Ron, the good thing about not knowing how many you have is that it’s harder to guesstimate how much you spent on ‘em. :D When I told my wife I wanted to do a giveaway because my GEC collection (accumulation?) had surpassed 100 knives, I could see her doing the math in her head. ;)

15 of course, Beer Scout or TC if you are going whole hog...and if not, a good ol' Boys Knife:

That's not really the reason Barrett! Although, now that you mention it..... might be a good one! ;) :D

That’s a nice group of knives, John!
Thank you, Barrett. :)
I used to have a few that I though, if i needed the money they'd be the first to go. That decision gets harder and harder.

You know what they say, it's not all about quantity, when it's quality
You are so right. :cool::thumbsup:
I've owned many more, but these are the ones that have proved themselves to me.

Nice collection! All of your candidates for EDC would make an excellent choice. I have and carry each of them. If you will be wearing dress slacks regularly stick with the 06 or 14, otherwise I'd select one of the other three. Congrats on coming in from outside. Hope you thoroughly enjoy both the job and your new EDC. :)

In the office I do Dockers and a dress shirt M-T. Friday is jeans day and I still always wear a dress shirt. We deal with clients and subcontractors on a daily basis so appearance and character matters. Working at home it's jeans and a tee shirt. One of our core values is to have some fun while you work. It is a fantastic company to work for. The 06 in smooth white bone is a dressy little knife indeed.
