Lets talk GEC!

I just went to their site, those M&Gs look nice, I’ve been looking for a reasonable price 35 Churchill with no luck so maybe I’ll pull the trigger but wish they didn’t have a billboard on the blade
I like the etches on the M&G blades better than any other GEC etches I've seen. My issue is with the shield size and placement. I just am overall not a fan of shields, preferring to see as much handle as possible, especially with great materials. It's like I can't see these knives past the shield when I look at them.

I do love how they tried to remain faithful to the cut in this old catalog (1924, I think?). The etch is a bit different and the one displayed in the cut has a long pull. One of the fellas from M&G stated that all the originals that he had crossed paths with had regular nail nicks but that the print demonstrated that they likely did both.

One could get it in Redwood, Ebony, Stag, and White Bone at that time.

Picture of the original blade and etch they used for the new M&G, they got it pretty close.

Fantastic! I wonder if they did the etch differently depending on what type of pull was on the blade (i.e. long pull, nail nick, etc.).

It probably had more to do when it was made and who made it, Maher&Grosh did not make their own knives, they had them made by multiple cutlery manufacturers at different times. Here is an El Diablo made by Miller Brothers.

I'm kinda surprised these didn't fly off the shelves since they're one of the last SFOs. I'm very tempted myself, the 35 is one of my favorite GEC patterns but I already have a beer and sausage on the way and I don't see myself carrying this M&G over my Churchill. I think the blade combo on the churchill was perfect to me. I much prefer an equal end with blades on opposing sides.

A akaMatt I’m really not a big fan of etches but this one has some history so I’ll try to live with it. I do like some knives with no shields but I think it looks good on this one.

They're good looking knives, no doubt! I may kick myself sometime down the road for letting these pass by. Lol, I've been back to look several times, despite my "issues" with them. I did see the jigged bone were out of stock earlier, so congrats getting one when you did!

same here. It’s easier now that we’re just down to the Appaloosa bone. The other three options were very strong.

I did not realize how close to the original these were. Glad I ordered an ebony and cocobolo. The etch is wonderful and I do appreciate the historical value of it on the M&G knives. I have all of the 29 M&Gs and those are wonderful. I am excited to get the 35s in hand to compare. I was hoping to get two 35s, then wait a few weeks, and get the other two. But I should've known better. Based on pics alone, I would say the M&Gs are my favorite of the run so far. Still waiting on my reserves to come through on my BS.

The only shoe left to drop is the NW it seems.
