Lets talk GEC!

I am starting to believe it. Name any other manufacturer that has priced their products so low that their inventory sells out within seconds - and hasn’t responded by raising prices. Give me one.

At $150, a new GEC drop would still sell out within hours or days. You have to get in the $200-300 range for then to sit for any length of time.

By “normal” people I men people who can afford/splurge $150 for a pocket knife, don’t want/need to have every model in multiple covers (collectors), and don’t have time to install apps and reply within seconds to a random alert.

EDIT: not sure what happened with the inline quote - I’m not trying to misquote anything you said, just didn’t embed correctly.

I could definitely go for another green knife. Don’t have one on me today, but I do have an 81.

Yes, more knives, please.

I do not have any green handled GECs - the only one that comes kind of close is this #12 in Camel Bone. I cannot recall what they called this color without checking the tube or #12 thread - Aqua something, if I remember correctly.

More Green Bone and more #81s - preferable as a Stockman.

I was really hoping GEC would run a bunch of zulu spears on the 74 pattern, but what if they did a F&F bullnose with a spear rather than the very subtle drop point? That'd be a cool knife, don't you think? I wouldn't cry about another run of 78s either. Those things were awesome, and they ran a HUGE run of them when they did them last. 77s would be cool as well, then they could do another set of barlows to go with the regular jacks.

A spear point 71 would probably break some unwritten knife law somewhere, but man it would be cool and an excellent worker.

I read through the last 30 or so pages of this thread yesterday for fun. The cool thing about GEC (and the reason they get such a passionate following) is that they make a wide variety of traditional patterns, sometimes with a neat twist, they’re generally very good quality/well made, and they don’t resort to a lot of gimmicky BS to pump up demand like some of their other competitors, which resonates well with the younger, “online” generation that is as a rule better informed/more inclined to comparison shop vs just buying what they see in the catalog based on the three sentence blurb.

When you have 500 people keenly interested in getting 350 knives, and at least 300 of those people have alerts set up on their phone or otherwise can buy them instantly when they appear.... they will go quick. There’s no easy answer if ramping up production isn’t feasible.

I am thankful there’s a company out there who still makes knives and doesn’t just outsource production overseas to make a knife at 1/4 the cost to sell for double the price. Mr. Howard evidently chooses principles over just getting rich, and that is admirable. (It’s equally admirable that he’s committed to selling his products at what he deems a reasonable price, vs. hiking them dramatically.) Do I wish I could get 5 TC Barlows with no fuss, to use one, keep one as a spare, and give a few away as birthday presents? Absolutely. But it’s not in the cards right now it seems. Luckily there are plenty of GEC knives available, chasing one down can just take some time. (I’d love to try a White Owl. I’ve been on the hunt since 2015 so far...)
