Here is posing in my cocobolo bowl along with my first GEC in cocobolo as well.
Interesting to see in the next couple pics how much darker my first cocobolo looks now after a year and a half.

Nice get, i stuffed up getting one, no one to blame but myself. How much do you expect yours to darken, you are very good with wood and maintaining it, just curious.

Nice couple of knives there, Dan! And I’m really loving that coco-bowl-o of yours as well... you did great work on that!:cool: I’d do something similar here, but I just don’t have the right wood... or tools to craft something like that! :D

Thanks Leon, my first coco was a bit darker to begin with. The pile side on that 93 Ram is almost black now.
This 15 is much lighter so I am also intrigued as to how it will age over time.
I'll post before and after pics in a years time

Nice Dan !!
That 1 1/2 old coco’s a fine keeper, and grats on the new one.

Gracias Gus :)

Now I find myself pondering one of life most transcendental questions ... to cut or not to cut :D

Go ahead Dan !!!!! You KNOW YOU WANT TO . Or you have to put it in the drawer . That would not be a bad thing to do either .

I definitely didn’t see this coming. These should be pretty cool. Love the bottle shield. I’m a fan of the dead skunk acrylic, so happy to see it as the acrylic choice.
I don’t see it coming either. The cap lifter makes the knife much more interesting to me. If I knew it at the time I would have tried to reserve it.

I only buy 1 or 2 GECs a year so they have to be something special for me to buy. Unfortunately they have all seemed special so far this year. Luckily they’ve mostly been too hard for me to get. :D

Hopefully this is a big enough run to be readily available.

Yeah, shield looks great and the dead skunk has always intrigued me!

Amazing pics and I like seeing the contrast between the two Knives.

Two of my last three GEC’s were spear blades so I need to wait for a good clip or sheepsfoot; but that said... it’s gonna be tough not to try to pick one of these up. It definitely seems special and I have a feeling they aren’t gonna be easy to come by unfortunately (without horrendously overpaying). Good luck!

On a more serious note  :D ( focus Dan focus )

I am loving my 15
Now I know why is one of the most popular GEC patterns

I am so happy to have landed one as I can not really buy more than a 2 or 3 GEC's a year and the 15 was certainly the most desired one.

It packs a nice blade for it's size. About the same cutting length as my sodbuster jr and my pioneer x.

I am definitely going to use it .

For food I am leaning more to just use my stainless knives these days so it will be destined to most likely open packages and cut string etc as I don't have a lot of other uses while working from home.

However just carrying it is a joy :)

I noticed it is not very sharp at all.
It struggled to slice paper and the angle at the tip is quite obtuse.
A few passes on my sharpmaker at 20 degrees only touched the bevel shoulders so it need reprofiling.

I've become pretty good at putting a super sharp mirror edge on my knives lately so I am considering giving it one one of these days :).
Never sharpened a GEC though and there is that bit of trepidation but I am confident it should go well.

Cheers my friends !

The ol' #73 arrived today and as promised, pictures and thoughts will be provided below.

This is a knife that has been used by prior owners and it has some patina and a fading etch to demonstrate this. Overall though, it is a nice knife and one that I am pleased to have in my collection. It is interesting to note some of the differences between early GEC and the GEC we experience in more recent times. This isn't a flawless knife, albeit still a well made one.

I love the look of this Primitive Bone, it reminds me of some of the mammoth I've seen in the past - it's rich, has lots of depth, and exudes character.

The tang suggests that this is a 2006 vintage but the 1~36 etch on the secondary blade throws me off a bit as well as the fact that the production totals for 2006 do not show that Primitive Bone was a cover choice for that year.
