Lets talk GEC!

So I have the 89 fruit knife in antique chestnut....is there anything thing I should do to the handle to help seal or protect it? I would hate to see that beautiful wood dry out or crack...any advice would help

There has been discussion (somewhere in this thread I think) about chestnut covers, but more because the wood is somewhat on the soft side. I recall a solution that at least one person came up with was to treat the handles with tung oil. As far as drying out and cracking goes, I wouldn't worry about that. The advice of a drop or two of mineral oil is indeed good! I tend to use that on many knife handles occasionally and it seems to work well. Plus, mineral oil is food safe and will never go rancid like olive oil will.

You watch a video tour of GEC then you get a strange phone call from Charlie who whispers “Five Days” into the phone before hanging up... and five days later a BF knife poll closes.

I’ve seen this movie before...😨

Id like two polls. One for a lot of colors. The second poll on the top two (or three). Too many colors and the votes will be too spread out.
I also like being able to change votes especially on the first. If your chosen vote is at the bottom, itll give us a chance to throw our vote towards one that will matter.

Question about the upcoming forum knife pricing.... since the distributor is marking up regular releases at 60%+ higher than other dealers (83 bocote for $139 vs $86 elsewhere), is there any guarantee he won't be doing the same to all of us? This has crossed my mind multiple times and I've been hesitant to post the question but I believe it needs asking given his recent behavior.

I'm not trying to start a pricing debate but looking for some reassurance that we won't all be bent over a barrel.

Further to that anyone with a knife store can volunteer their services and time to administer the Forum Knife shipments. It's a lot of work for zero profit and thus not a lot of people do it.

Anyone who does like Gunstock Jacks, or Collector Knives should rightly be lauded.

This process is completely seperate from their day jobs.

Forum knife prices will be set by Charlie. I will recieve a small compensation for the huge shipping undertaking.

Some dealers get large volumes of product and are able to sell for less; think big box against small front street stores. No one is forced to buy from the little guys that receive a handful of product.

I like the idea of two Polls!! We have lots of time, but we could shorten these further to say, five days??
Feedback??
Yes please, 5 days sounds great.

Hoping for a little color, no browns. The brewed jig is pretty much just dark brown. Crossing my fingers for Black Cherry sawcut like the TC14. Whatever we end up with I'm sure will look great. If it's got to be brown, my vote would go to antique yellow (brown body, yellowish near bolster).
