Lets talk GEC!

Ok last post… i hope. For red, we dont want it to be pink which happens often enough. Even the elderberry has this issue so my opinion is the best red option is blood red

Another color id like to see that i dont know if gec has ever done aside for in jigged is the black plum. I think it would be pretty special.

I also like the deep chestnut colors as well a deep green color. Ill let others post those pictures if they are interested.

I really like the copperhead or some of the browns, but blood red bone looks great and I like it on my 29. I'm leery of the other reds, but these look fantastic
The plum might look pretty great too.

I'm heading out tomorrow to the land of no internet and no cell phone connection (I just have to drive over to the cemetery. Its on a hill ;) ). I was hoping to vote on color before I left, but since its not going to happen, y'all vote for something cool
If I think about when I'm out and about I may log in and vote, but a lot of times when I'm in Tennessee I go the whole week or two and never get on the internet at all, unless its to find out how to fix whatever is broke. The last time I spent an hour in the cemetery learning how to replace the crankshaft position sensor on a PT Cruiser :p

I don't know, Harry??!! Some of you could suggest some colors if you are at the Rendezvous!!!
Maybe I phrased that wrong Charlie : I expect that GEC will be making a Run of the 86's in various colors and I hope that none of those colors will be offered to us to vote on for the Forum Knife . And I Do Not Want to know what those colors will be either .
And I Am Not at the Rendezvous . I would like to be , but I just do not want to do the drive anymore . If you remember my friend , I Am Older than you .
Harry

Got home a little while ago from the rendezvous. Good time. Met some interesting people...ok, some nice people. Had the chance to talk to Bill Howard for awhile. All around good folks and excellent knives. I enjoyed listening to others' conversations and trying to figure out what makes us knife guys click. It's obvious GEC needs to keep making a wonderful variety of products. Can't make everyone happy. But that's part of the chase.

Oh, and I told Bill what pattern I want to see next. He ran to his office and got right on it. 🙄

My first car. I believe it was a 2001.
I don’t think it ever worked quiet right, but it was indestructible until the timing belt went.

A modern car patterned after older cars. No wonder GECs are my bag.

If those are your choices for color, and they appear, I’ll throw my vote in for what you want.

I think I’m going to have to beg my old lady pretty hard to hope for going to next year’s rendezvous. I heard a lot of really cool acrylics were available. That said for me these are my “Top 3” so far this year. Hopefully a nice acrylic is in the future this year.

Maybe once we have a winner to the poll and charlie takes the winner to bill he can state that they are already planning that color for the run so the runner up on the poll will get to be the new winner. Assuming that one also is not one of the standard for this run. Hope this makes sense

Jiki Jiki any takers for some good whittling company?
Surprisingly no carving takers. I did have many people stop by for advice, support, and tips though. So we talked about many things "carving" and knives to carve with so it was good. I got a couple of ornaments done as well.

Do you know what the best carving knife is?

The one in your hand.😉

A Angry Angus It was very nice talking to you at Rendevous!...... I appreciated your help and wisdom...... Hope to see you next year!........ Brent

Quick question to all you good knowledgeable folks here: On of my newer GEC knives (hint - my avatar) has started to show a slight up-down play when in half-stop position. I have carried and used it almost every day since I got it about a month ago but still I'm a bit surprised by this. Should I expect some play when it is fully open and can I do anything to prevent/fix it?

Half stop position is nothing more than the gate between gears on a standard shift automobile..... If it is ok when fully open you have nothing to worry about........ Also, remember that a knife will "break in" during use and it's characteristics will change....

Just to further clarify what has just been said on the subject, I would expect some up and down movement at half stop.

up and down movement at full open would be more unexpected, because there the back spring locks in against the tang which should prevent further backward motion.

you’re good! Keep using that GEC and enjoy it.

Thanks for explaining and clarification!
The World of slipjoints is new to me so there is much to learn. Lucky that I discovered the land of the Porch.

Hanging some pants to dry. Felt a lump in the front right pocket...uh oh...the 33 took a trip in the washer. Glad it was in the pocket sheath. Lil bit of discoloration on the spines of the blades. I guess it's a user now...🤷🏻‍♂️ Oiled it up really good and it's all set.
