Lets talk GEC!

Tip on wood covers that are un-stabilized; several coats of tung oil strengthens and preserves. Very little is needed so buy a small container of it and apply a thin coat with finger or swab, let dry, repeat. It is slow drying so be patient.
Would boiled linseed oil work as well?

Forum knife prices will be set by Charlie. I will recieve a small compensation for the huge shipping undertaking.
you didn't have to share that, but I appreciate your honesty.
Perhaps I should say volunteers receive little or no compensation for their efforts.

Either way, no one's getting rich off of these things except those who consider wealth a fine piece of folding cutlery in the pocket.

.... and here we gooooo. 🤎 🤎 🤎
so my pleb ass found out about this days after the release, and was gutted, becasue the bocote 83 is the perfect knife for my brother and i've been looking for the right one for a while. where do you all learn of pending GEC releases? my impression is you need to be diligent to snag any release of theirs, like the mule teams of late, and i don't know if i have the time/attention for it, but i'd love not to *completely* miss my chance for these next time. am i right in assuming the wood #83 won't be back for some time, though?

Some dealers get large volumes of product and are able to sell for less; think big box against small front street stores. No one is forced to buy from the little guys that receive a handful of product.
This!! Barry will be busting butt for us all!! I for one, am grateful!!
Thanks, Barry!!

Linseed oil can gain some mold that turns very dark!! It's organic!! Mineral oil is much safer!!
I would expect the linseed oil to cure and seal the wood. The mineral oil oil I would expect to act more as a treatment or additive that would need to be repeated. Am I off on this?

I think you are right! A knife handle is not like furniture!! A hard finish can trap moisture/sweat!! Mineral oil lets the handle breathe, but protects the individual fibers. Too much can soften wood, stag and bone so use it sparingly!! My 2 cents !!

The price will be fixed for the sale!! I have some say in this matter!!
But we don't have to discuss it here; Anyone who knows me, knows I will do right by us all!!
Let's not go off on alarmist Tangents please!!
Thanks Charlie, this was the first I had heard of you controlling the price. Not alarmist just uninformed... Also I appreciate the huge task that it is and have no objection to any dealer being compensated for it. Consider me fully assured. :)

That makes sense.

That makes sense.
I have had linseed oil turn very dark but I don't remember if it was boiled or raw linseed.
It would be boiled, my father put Raw linseed on every thing in sight, it darkened a bit, but never went really dark, and he would repeat the application every one to two years if it was wood out in the elements. That was all that generation had as a wood preserver, and they put it on every thing. I have used it on wooden knife scales with great success, as i said it will darken wood a bit, especially the lighter colored woods, the key is, less is more, just light coats, then leave it for up to 2 weeks to soak in. It is a pure oil with no hardening agents.

Quick question to all you good knowledgeable folks here: On of my newer GEC knives (hint - my avatar) has started to show a slight up-down play when in half-stop position. I have carried and used it almost every day since I got it about a month ago but still I'm a bit surprised by this. Should I expect some play when it is fully open and can I do anything to prevent/fix it?
I have an older 23 that has a lot of open and close movement at half stop. I just measured: 5/8” of play at the tip. I don’t even notice it, I just open it and use it. It locks up super tight, love the thing.
