I've been wondering what's been eating the acorns from my basswood tree...Well, I'm just sitting here thinking about what the Oak Leaf on the sign could mean. Making some wood chips and look what came out of the wood.

I totally agree! That deep almost mahogany color just does it for me.You got to love the natural micarta when it breaks in.

Interesting. I actually like the look of natural micarta better when itās new. Iām always a bit disappointed when it loses that āfreshā look.![]()
When I first got into GEC in 2015 Genuine Stag was Burnt Stag and Natural Stag and was just that and all Stags had the UNXLD shields installed . I do not remember them sending any UNXLD Pins but maybe some of the other folks do .Iām wondering if anyone knows the story behind the use of āGenuine Stagā covers by GEC? Specifically, the inclusion of an UNXLD pin with the knife rather than it being pinned to the stag cover. Whatās the difference between Genuine Stag and Natural Stag?

Thank yaā¦Iāll do a little digging. Should have started with a little researchI can't remember the specifics, howeverknifeswapper Mike did explain it in one of these threads awhile back.
That is some good info to know . I think your 2012 old Wrangler precedes any of my Stags . I would have like to gotten one of those Hat Pins to wear . I will have to check to see if I do have any Stag from before 2012 , but I doubt it .Harryā¦I have a few examples of Genuine Stag GECs and just received another todayā¦a 571312 Wrangler. Thatās what prompted the inquiry. They all are shieldless and the UNXLD shield is made into a hat pin thatās included in the tube with the knife. Iāll get a pic tomorrow of an example.
Very choice, superb knife. This is not a Gen stag, but a nice one just the same...

I had (but no longer) a bullwinkle that included the hat pin rather than the shield from 2012 as well and had thought it was that they decided not to install the shields in stag anymore and were just including it because a shield was expected, sort of them saying āhey this stag is too nice to mess up with a shield but here it is anywayā. I donāt know know that for sure and also thought that was when they stopped inlaying the shields in the stag across the board but it sounds like they stopped after that. I canāt remember but it may have even said something to that effect on the label of the bullwinkle if someone has one. When I first got into GEC in 2015 Genuine Stag was Burnt Stag and Natural Stag and was just that and all Stags had the UNXLD shields installed . That's helpful - never knew that. A question though: when the tube lid simply says "Sambar Stag" (as it so often does), does that mean it's Burnt Sambar Stag, Natural Sambar Stag, Genuine Sambar Stag, a combination of those, or something else?Burnt Stag - bought in slabs and torched to enhance the color.
Natural Stag - bought in slabs, but nice enough to cause them not to torch.
Genuine Stag - bought in full horn format and cut by the factor for optimal stag show.
Thanks for Mike's old definitionsThat's helpful - never knew that. A question though: when the tube lid simply says "Sambar Stag" (as it so often does), does that mean it's Burnt Sambar Stag, Natural Sambar Stag, Genuine Sambar Stag, a combination of those, or something else?
Also, if the material is bought in as Genuine Stag, can it, once cut, be torched at all?
