Lets talk GEC!

I am looking forward to the prospect of a 86 Barlow run - it will keep us all abuzz for a wee bit and hopefully our discussions will be about the actual knives 😏.

GEC has proven to not be beholden to past norms in recent history so I suppose anything is possible. For the sake of discussion though, I am curious what sort of blade that a general run 86 Barlow might sport - sheepfoot? Spear? Or might it have the same blade as our forum knife (that would be disappointing...)?

Lots of possibilities to think about - blade, bolster styling, cover materials, etc.

I would rather expect to see the clip on the standard run, I could easily be off on that.

I don’t think it unlikely that our bolster is carried over from the standard run. Seems like that would tie in with the chatter about being GEC branded. Have they done Barlows other than the TC and NF stamped ones?

Edit: Right, the 25s, I knew that. 🤦‍♂️

Oak leaves come from oak trees and oak trees become oak barrels for making wine. Expect a knife with a corkscrew fellas!

Okay... I'm going to break this down for you all, so... hang with me here.
Gray rectangle. remove the "r" and "rec" and you have "gay tangle". A happy tangle.
When do you find a happy tangle?
Why it's a ball of your fishing line that you notice you created in the process of landing a lunker.
And what would you do with that lunker? why you eat it, of course.
And with your meal you'd have celebratory Champagne... which comes from where?
France.
Stay with me now...
Brown Oak leaf. Autumn- when brown oak leaves fall... Fall... prior to winter... winter, Christmas...
Christmas... "A Christmas Story"... Leg Lamp.
France... Leg...

Folks... we're getting a French Kate... but that's just what Bill Howard wants you to think.
He wants you to chew on the hints for a while.
Chew -> food -> fruit -> melons.
Yes.

We'll be getting melon testers.

I've had Deloris over in accounting double check your math, and she says it's solid.

Perhaps we finally know the retail price point at which demand drops off for GECs? That foggy hill retailer still has over 500 left and these have been in stock for a good while now compared to other GEC releases.

The price point could be an issue. For me, my thinking is, the knife is a Remington. It just happens to be manufactured by GEC. If the knife was in my collection and someone asked - "what is that knife ?", I would answer - it's a Remington. If they were Really into knives, I would say it is a Remington made by GEC - and then say why I like GEC knives, etc. etc. And then show them my totally cool super awesome 2 knife collection of GEC knives. Just a thought.

I don't view it any differently than the Maher & Grosh or Smith & Sons knives - yes they may be made by GEC but they are M&G and S&S knives respectively. We don't call a Camillus made Buck a Camillus, we call it a Buck. So I will be calling this Remington a Remington.

I think the Remington knife is really cool and even better that it is manufactured by GEC. I hope more Remington classics will be brought to life by GEC in the future - price point aside (worth noting that M&Gs and S&Ss fetch a premium at retail too), these will make excellent collectibles and superb pocket knives alike.

I’m on the fence regarding the Remington knife. I’m not a huge fan of the firearms brand itself (I still haven’t forgiven them for gutting Marlin), so I think I’ll save my pennies for the upcoming 86s. I’m expecting some cool stuff from this run, including our forum knife.

Yea Remington isn’t the same company anymore and hasn’t been for a long time. Freedom group destroyed them. Glad ruger picked up marlin recently

Do we know who holds the trademark for Remington knives? Is it the ammo side or the new “Remarms” firearms side?

What GEC knife have you bought/tried thinking there is no way I keep this one? The first one for me was the 82 Dixie, however the most recent is the 74 I can't keep this on out of my pocket. The geometry with the drop point and the sliceyness of the blade? Just make it fun to use.

Calf pen for me. At first I thought it was just a funky looking knife. I usually prefer Northfield trim with fancy bolsters and polished blades so the basic design was a little off brand for me. After carrying it for a while, I appreciate the neutral handle design of the 35 pattern and the 2 blades gives me options. I also use that flat head tip more often than I thought I would. I usually only keep 3 knives in rotation and this calf pen is always one of the 3.

That is another one. I bought it on a lark, black micarta. I love that funky knife in the yard, it has an answer for just about any situation.

It was the beer and sausage for me. Although I don’t use either of the extra “tools”. I love the 35 and the long pull spearpoint blade.

I can understand that, I bought that one and moved it on. It just didn't stick with me, however I love the 35 frame and have several others on that platform. You got to love the natural micarta when it breaks in.👍😉😎
