Lets talk GEC!

I see more orange tones in this one. I think it will come out more autumn toned than pink. Time will tell.

That wouldn't break my heart either. I always feel that guessing a color of bone in its unfinished state is a bit of a crap shoot anyway so I am happy to experience whatever surprise we end up being in for.

Those barlows look great. To me, a good bolster stamp is what really makes a barlow, and I like that new one.

Having said that, the forum barlow is the one I’m going to get (hopefully). I think they are going to look great also.

That bolster stamp! Why is it not centred on the bolster

I don't know, but I'm going to guess it has something to do with the pin. 🤔

Why did they use that font!? Couldn't they have used the same one as the TC's...
What a picky bunch we are...

What GEC's other than this 86 and the 97 had recurve blades?

I have not had the pleasure of experiencing them in hand but I have read that the 98s (camp, cattle, and whittler versions) have big clips with a similar, ever-so-slight, recurve - might even be the same blade they use in the 97 (Tidioute version).

Seems we are discussing stamp placement in two different places....

Current placement on the 86 is not without precedent.

Makes sense to me. You can’t put a stamp too close to where you will be peining and grinding a pin.

As someone stated earlier, the line underneath does add a nice separation, but maybe that would be too busy.

It’s really easy to second guess some of these designs, but it seems like they know what they’re doing and people seem to like the finished product. It reminds me of the “tombstone” shield on the whittlers that were criticized and people thought were photoshopped to hide something. When people got them in hand, it seemed like they were well received. I don’t love all the designs, but that doesn’t make it a bad design.

Despite the opinions surrounding this particular GEC offering, it is really hard not to love it, especially since it is on the #35 frame. I could use only the main blade forever and not think anything of the others, they don't get in the way and the added heft they impart to the frame makes it a pleasure to handle. Good action on the knife overall and the "ping" that comb makes when closing it is oddly pleasant.
I agree with all this, plus, it's handy to have a small ruler with you. I just hope the next run will be in metric.
