Lets talk GEC!

What are your predictions for what's coming after the 68s?

Perhaps the 36 Sunfish?

I would love to see GEC do a 26 or 36 run, but not holding my breath.

Me, too!

That's a bingo.

Lessee . . . hemlock is red and then they add green. Now green is yellow + blue. So we have all three primary colors . . . red, yellow and blue. Now when you combine all three primary colors . . .

😂
Nice to see that color mix card again my friend . Thank you .

It is a pocket carver.

However to answer your question yes and no. I have had both this one and the white bone re-ground. So now they are thinner than a stock pocket carver.

I finally got around to sending Tom my #62 white bone Pocket Carver for a regrind on the main.

hile waiting, I thought I’d try Frank’s cousin to give to my grandson for Halloween. I’ve sure learned a lot from your work, thanks for sharing. By the way, I forgot to leave some material for the neck bolts, so I used a horizontal piece so I could make the bolt heads. 😁 Is this your pattern? I wish I had more imagination...

That's awesome!

Thank you for the compliment, since we can't really sit on "the porch" and whittle together we need to share our work/ideas here. That's how whittling and carving skills have been passed on for generations. Sitting around a fire, on a porch, or just visiting. Don Mertz has a nice article about that on his blog, Google the wood bee carver, also a lot of useful information on there too. In one article he talks about finding old pocket knives removing the blades and regrinding them for carving.

I wouldn't call Frankenstein my "pattern" per say but more something that happened while I was messing around.

I'm wondering if they're going to continue with the transposed numbers trend? We had 47s and 74s, 38s and 83s, now 86s and 68s. If that's the case, I'm crossing my fingers for 16s and 61s!
Hate to burst your bubble but the 47/74s were released last year and 6 out of 10 of this year's releases weren't transposed.

I mean I never said those were all from this year or that's all they did, I'm just saying it's clearly a little something Bill is having fun doing. All three times the runs have happened back to back, I'd say it's pretty clearly on purpose. Will it happen next time, or will it even happen again? Anyone's guess.

What about 22s and…more 22s! I’d be game for that! I’d also love another run of the 09s - they are what got me into GEC way back when. I remember seeing them out of stock on a retailer’s site and figuring that I’d just wait until they were in stock again…I’m still waiting, but I’ve picked up a couple dozen knives to tide me over.
I still think we are due for a run of 14s.

2016: spear
2018: clip
2021 or 2022: sheepfoot
A sheepsfoot and pen 14 in nice jigged bone and a wood or two would be a great run, and would fill a great niche.

I agree that a small sleeve board pattern would be cool. Any watch pocket knife would be nice.

Honestly, we’ve had so many cool releases this year that I would be fine if all they made after the 68’s were beard combs and fixed blade knives.

Or something with a can opener, full sized fork and maybe a small pen, but that’s just me.
