Lets talk GEC!

That's a great rant, Jamie! I generally do not like etching on the blade. Or I prefer a wimpy etch on carbon steel that will quickly disappear with use and patina.

I don't like etching either. They don't bother me so much on GEC because you can flitz them right off. The deep etches just ruin that blade for me, aesthetically.

I get what you're saying about having only 50% of them etched, but I have a feeling then we'd be seeing a bunch of old stock, all with deep etch that sits on the shelves for years.... kind of like when you go looking for an old pattern and all you can find is a bunch of unattractive stag. Of course, I mean no offense to those of you who love stag and etches..... just doesn't float my boat.

You could probably send the knife somewhere and have your own custom etches applied.

Thanks, Scott. Why not give everyone what they want rather than just a compromise?

50% sounded like a good number to me but it could be less. Get too few out there and you could drive the speculators?

Another sound thought. I have one of the 36's with a stamped blade, love it!

LOVE that knife. I think the stamping coincides with all-steel construction, another factor that basically guarantees I will buy it :D

I just want more stamped blades. I know it's probably more expensive but I'd cough up a premium.

I agree! It may seem strange to some, but I do not like etches, and I love stamped blades! I would pay extra to cover the added cost and added value!

We certainly do have the same taste in knives and features

More all steel and more stamped blades :D

Side note.....Derrick, whats the blade combo on your Halfwhittler? I need to know if I need to sell off a few to buy multiple's  lol

The 83 small lockback looks nice .

What is this 83 small lockback that you speak of????
I don't see it anywhere on GEC's website.

Wait a minute....Wait a minute.....I do see a blurb at the bottom of GEC's faux magazine cover that says SEE PREVIEW OF THE NEW #83 LITTLE LOCKBACK.

That looks very interesting.....now to wait and see what scale choices they will offer.

Wow I really like the clip blade version! Call me crazy but I actually really like how the Tidioute clip looks with that super long swedge and the nail nick being inside the swedge. The nick is also move out closer to the tip of the blade so should be a little easier to open. Very cool little knife.

I like the shape, I like the size, I'm sure I'll like the handle materials! This or a 73 though? I've been thinking about a 73 but this would be great also in the slightly scaled-down size.

I've been looking for a watch pocket knife and now it seems like I'll have to make some hard choices! I've been looking for a nice 25 jack but that 83 ticks a lot of boxes. I do love me some lanyards! If we get some 440C options for the 83, it's a done deal. I haven't seen any stainless this year, are they moving away from their GEC line?

The #63 Mako was available in the Great Eastern line with 440C which came out at the beginning of the year. I don't think 440C is going anywhere but they seem to pick and choose what knives they use it on. I've heard it's not a hot seller.
