Lets talk GEC!

They have moved the #25's back and the #83's are on the schedule to finish up in mid-August. They had to clear some room for the rendezvous.
I was really looking forward to the #25s, but you've reminded me to look forward to the rendezvous!

Forgive the newbie question, but I've just become aware of GEC and I like a lot of their knives!

I see mention of "SFO" occasionally, and I see people listed as "SFO" on the GEC website, but nowhere can I find what that means!

Can someone explain this bit of GEC nomenclature? I understand it has something to do with availability (or distributors), but I'm really quite in the dark.

And there are some knives I just *need* to buy!

SFO = Special Factory Order

These are knives that somebody has special ordered a run of. For example, the upcoming Mud Bugs are an SFO for a specific dealer, so all of those knives will ship to them for distribution.

SFO stands for Special Factory Order. It's not "GEC Nomenclature". All Knife Manufacturers make various Special Factory Orders for any number of customers.

No need to ask for "forgiveness". We were all newbies to begin with and asking questions is how we all learn.

A few weeks ago, I didn't know what SFO meant either. Today I'm expecting delivery of my first. Be careful, my friend... the rabbit hole is very deep and very expensive.

So the next question is: how did you get ahold of those guys? There's a knife I want that they've listed as SFO for a specific person, but I don't see that person in their distributors list. :grumpy:

(This reminds me of my early days on rec.motorcycle; those who were also there will understand the reference.)

If you name the "specific person" here and name the knife you would like to get, someone will send you a PM with contact info.

OK then!

Good work, everyone. :)

I'll add my thanks too. Thanks!

I really wish GEC would do another run of these (#56s).

That's a beauty, Steve. I only wish they had done the pens with markside nicks in front of the clip main, like on the later run of #85s.
Maybe they'll change it up and give us that on the next run. Markside pen and calico bone would be killer.
