Lets talk GEC!

Is the 14 basically a smaller 15?

I'm not sure I'll bite on any of the 14 or 65 releases unless a particular cover really grabs my interest which might be a good thing for my wallet.

But then again, anything with a sheepsfoot would be game over for my wallet.

recently released 49's had a 3.25" closed length and the 14 has a 3" closed length. I believe the 15's are 3.5" closed

Gotta say, I’m a huge fan of 14s. Doesn’t hurt that the first “nice” knife I ever got was a gift from SuperHowl SuperHowl and it was an amber jjgged bone two blade spear/pen. Still one of my all time favorites, because of where it came from and just how it feels.

Of course, it also led me to spend ridiculous amounts of money since then.

During the 2018 run I snagged as many as I could, and then gave a bunch away as gifts or sales, no idea that it would be so hard to find them again.

I’m officially sharpening my elbows r8shell r8shell !

🤠
I totally respect your decision to reduce the collection.
It makes what you have left that much more meaningful.

I'm a fan of the #14s too. If I like a pattern, I've always chosen just one example to buy, never trying to complete a set. Nothing wrong with going for that, I'm just not that kind of a collector (and don't have the resources for it, even if I wanted to).

A #14 two-blader with sheepsfoot would complete a kind of set for me. but I'm not gonna sweat it. I have a vintage Boker USA that fits the bill.

I have some T/C barlow confusion. Seeing the Lick Creek barlows on the schedule, are they T/C barlows? I used to think the TC was for Tidioute Cutlery, but I watched some YouTube reviews of them last night and figured out it was "Tom's choice " that meant TC. But are they always a 14 pattern? Are they Waynorth? I know everyone goes crazy for them and it is hard to get your hands on them.

I'm really looking for a TC barlow 101 summary, or TC barlow for dummies!

Your first mistake... watching YouTube videos. 🤣
Seriously, some of those guys have no clue what they're talking about.
"TC" stands for Tidioute Cutlery. "Tom's Choice" was particular runs of TC Barlows with a Clip Blade.

Well thanks, I learned more in 10 minutes on BF than my own sporadic "internet research" would have delivered in a week!

Any GEC Barlow has potential to be nice so I am still looking forward to seeing the Lick Creek. Which brings up the question what is up with "Lick Creek"? Is that just a GEC name for 14 barlows only, or for certain types or runs?

I thought that Lick Creek knives were originally SFOs made for Lyle Fry. There were some #14s, and also a #38 Farmer Jack. Nowadays, it seems GEC is just using the name for their regular run #14s.

Or maybe I'm utterly confused.

This one was made and stamped for Mr. Fry.

Lick Creek is the name for their #14 pattern, Barlows and Jacks.
Maybe somebody could post up a picture of the Lick Creek history on the tube.

Here you are. The little house at the bottom of the picture is where I was actually born. The house at the top of the depiction is my Papaw Fry's.

Bill Howard was inspired to create a boy's knife and somehow envisioned me as a youth as representative.I guess he liked the stories that I told at the Rendezvous , although my writing skills are not up to Bill's cutlery.
