Lets talk GEC!

I’m looking forward to the sudbuster as a new “pau hana” tool. The GEC tube popper and bantam perform nicely too.

Edit: I guess photos don’t show up anymore
Ha ha.... the company I work for used to host a Pau Hana every Thursday afternoon around 4 o'clock..... in the building.... there were usually 4 large igloo type coolers with a variety of beers, and a few wines, finger food, etc... I had never heard of it before that, and was amazed the company was providing free beer....

They don't do it anymore...... I think one of the interns had a little too much to drink, and spoiled it for everyone....

Oh man that sounds like a good time. Out here it’s a common phrase that translates to being done with work. That usually means popping open a cold one and enjoying good food.

Well to be honest, I was a little disappointed when they announced the 71. I was hoping for some version of a stockman/cattle knife. When I saw the picture of "what's down the hall" I saw the bull sitting there with the guy with the giant nose, and it just screamed bullnose to me. A day or 2 later the 71's appeared. I know they have a strong following and are a great working knife for the money, just not my cup of tea. I am going to be selling a few GEC's (mostly doubles)very soon and the 71's will be included. Oh well, we'll see what pops up next.

Same here, seems like a while since the last stockman from GEC.

edit: that said the sudbusters look very cool

There will be a cattle knife soon, that's almost certain ;)

The local office of company I work for (a major international firm and a previous iteration), also used to do Pau Hana every Thursday. Then our CEO at the time got himself a DUI unrelated to our event and in a different city and then the edict came down from above, offices had to go dry. Relevant knife content, cap lifters on my favorite pattern the 15 (2013, 2014, 2014/2015, 2015, and three 2016 including custom Beerlow). I wish GEC would have put a lifter on the 86, my second favorite pattern:EAA636BA-2524-44A4-A79E-C89ACE1D72DC.jpeg

I think it is a good buy. The Barlow version with the bottle opener started the GEC popularity craze, so the toolset is popular and my GEC sodbusters are my most used and appreciated GECs. They used to be cheaper though.
A Barlow with a bottle opener? By GEC? I don't remember this one.
There was one. An sfa from a rendezvous several were done for Charlie and dispersed there. I think though that he is referring to all the mods that were done.

I think he is confusing the beer scout and crown lifter 15s. The popularity of those has not really diminished at all.

That makes sense... When he said Barlow, I got all confused thinking, "Where was I to have missed that release?" 🙃
2015 Rendezovous there were a handful of TC “Beerlows” made in soupbone…true grails. Not sure they kicked off the craze, I would give a lot of credit to Evan (esnyx) who started creating Beerlows (he may have coined term) using 2013 Radio and 2014 Crown lifters before this “factory” model was made. Not mine (but sure wish it was!), photo pulled from post by Travman;ADC50BDF-5608-485A-A3F0-24760C8A8CBE.jpeg

Ya, I remember those Rendezvous Exclusives, but figured that limited number didn't kick off the current GEC craze.
I think the original guy making the statement was just confused about what a Barlow actually is.
You mean this isn't a Barlow?

That is NOT a Barlow.
If it was a Barlow, it would say "Barlow" on the bolster or have a Boker shield on it. ;)

I doubt that

That is a great picture of a great knife, but I can not take credit for that pic. My guess is that is Rob’s Primble Primble picture.
