Besides the Grade B ebony, I think the 2014 Crown Lifters paled in comparison to your 2014 Diamond Radio Jacks…maybe the Grade A ebony went to those! Relevant knife content but decidedly not ebony:

My lousy phone pics darken the wood! That stone heart is actually a wonderful Green Jade!! I will try a better picture; the one thing I miss about my old Scanner (R.I.P) is, it represented true colors!!

but there are so many better tools to get a cap off. even a bic lighter would do in a pinch. i remember at the rendezvous i left my house keys in the hotel room so when we were standing around i didnt have my usual pry key chain. luckily one of my buddies had a bic lighter handy. The caplifter has such a small lifting area that the amount of leverage it can provide is minimal. ive gotten the caplifter blade deleted on the last caplifter knife i purchased actually but thats a different debate.

The 2011 BF knife may have been GEC’s first but the lifter didn’t function properly, the hook didn’t grab the edge of cap. You could pick them up on secondary market for quite awhile. Even the 2013 Boys Radio and 2014 Diamond Radio were readily available…much different for the Beer Scout. The chatter before its release and the membership in the BSK Club caused quite a stir and sales were brisk for most covers…and that was also for a large number of knives in the release unlike all previous cap lifter models. The BSK also seems to be the cap lifter model most searched for on the exchange. I still hold that the BSK and sister Soda Scouts caused the craze.

That’s why you need a Super Beer Scout. More leverage.

That said, it was still early enough in the overall GEC craze that I was easily able to pick up a couple Beer Scouts (and a couple more to give as gifts) on the exchange for just slightly more than dealer price.

That said, it was still early enough in the overall GEC craze that I was easily able to pick up a couple Beer Scouts (and a couple more to give as gifts) on the exchange for just slightly more than dealer price.

i hope thats a photoshop, but i wouldnt be surprised if one of our more enterprising modders actually made it.

It is, although I will say, after making that a few years ago, I did entertain the idea of having someone do it for real. I thought it would fun to try and pass it off as an April Fools Day post. But I couldn’t bring myself to sacrifice a Beer Scout and a Crown Lifter (for the extra caplifter) to do it, especially as they got harder/more expensive to get ahold of.

I’m intrigued by the lifter on the sudbuster, bit of a new shape. As I noted above, the lifter of the 2011 BF knife needed some tweaks (based on discussions here on BF) to function properly. The lifter on the 2013 Boys Radio is perhaps my favorite…it has a longer scoop/shorter screw driver blade than found on the subsequent 2014 Diamond Radio Jacks/CLs and 2015/2016 BSKs/CLs. The longer scoop places the pry point closer to the other side of cap, not towards middle which I think makes for an easier popping of cap (I’ve done a lot of experimentation!).

right, and i have had both the beer scouts and a day glow caplifter with clip at one point, but i knew folks who appreciated more than me. good ole single clip makes me happy

I've been carrying pocket knives for over 60 years, but I think the Beer Scout was the first new GEC that I ever bought.

Beer Scout is what turned my head to GEC and traditional knives in general. I only have 2 Beer Scouts from the very last run, but I have quite a few GECs now. Might have been “gimmicky” but it was the lure that hooked me.
