Lets talk GEC!

On a lighter note, did anyone else notice they are doing some of the Bull Busters in Osage Orange wood this coming run?

That I had not seen. I've been wanting to try some OO. This might just be the one to get. Thanks for the heads up.

One of these days, I just might pick up one of those. :D
I'm no expert on marketing, but I have my esthetic opinions, and I think the cover material is very important on this pattern. That is to say, it's possible that the versions that were done in stag don't sell quickly because they give the impression of a bad skin disease on the lady's leg. Now if they do one in 'glitter gold' I might not be able to resist. Who doesn't like lamè?

Rachel, you've got me chuckling again with your analysis! :D:thumbup::D

Last time I was at a local gun&knife show, I was seriously investigating French Kates. I had just purchased a buckshot bone Colt teardrop jack, and a dealer at the show had a matching (and fairly massive) Kate, but she wanted "an arm and a leg" for it. :p Another vendor had a bunch of Rough Rider leg knives in 3 different sizes, but again, the price was considerably more than I'd pay an online dealer to ship one to my door.

With all the love for Beer Scouts and Beerlows around here, I'm surprised there aren't more fans of a shapely leg that you don't even have to open to deploy the cap lifter!:confused:

C'mon now Mark, I know you have a drill press and some hollow brass tubing out in the shop...but maybe not the time with your mom recovering and all those fish barlows!

Yea Brad, send me a Carbide drill bit and I'll do it! Drilling thru the hardened backspring is tough on HSS bits.:D

Beer Scouts are cool! :D French Kates........:barf::barf::barf:

I forgot about that hardened backspring, Mark!

I hope GEC saves some Orange Osage for the #25 EO sheepsfoot, wouldn't that be something!:eek::eek:

Glad I can make you laugh. Some of us get so serious sometimes.

So you really can use the shoe as a cap lifter, huh? I'll have to keep my eye out for one that's not too expensive, and in an appropriate material. Maybe a solid color acrylic or white bone. (I could scrimshaw fishnet stockings.)I just can't separate in my mind the cover material from the shape of a lady's leg. Colt's buckshot bone would be disturbing.

Are you guys talking bad about my gal Ms French Kate?! I have a feeling she was more well received back in her heyday.

Does anyone know what blade style the 65's are going to be?

Please discuss the knives, rather than one another.

That is directed at more than one poster.

How's the pull and construction on yours? I've been wanting to get one for a while to keep as a collection piece, maybe future gift.

I have an ivory Kate and construction is the same top notch as you would expect in every GEC folder. The pull on mine is 'medium', not too hard and not too soft.

Interesting that there is another French Kate run coming up when they are so notoriously hard to move. Looks like a special run though. I think it is cool that they work as bottle openers, maybe more people will be interested this time around for that alone.

I think the Drake Well Museum is probably ordering the Ben Hogan & French Kate because of the local history. I'd guess they would not have ordered them if the knives were named something else. Just a guess though.

They might actually be fast movers at a gift shop. Tourists like to buy stuff.

Also, notice that all of the French Kates are Tidioute in acrylic, making them a lower price point, which probably move a lot faster than ivory. Most people probably won't pay that much for a knife that looks like a novelty. Personally, I think it's a great little knife.

I'm looking forward to some new #65's too. I love that pattern. Does anyone know what the blade shape will be on these? Sheepfoot would be interesting.

I applaud them. They must be having fun, profits be damned.

I really hope that's the case. I can get behind somebody creating something because it's what they like and not worrying about how it will be received by the general public. That's true art right there.

That would be one long, skinny sheepsfoot. More of a sheepsfootankleandshin. :p
