Lets talk GEC!

You sure the Goldmine allusion doesn't refer to the return of the kitschy Glitter Gold Acrylic ??:eek:o_O:poop:
Would be interesting actually.

We already covered this. It used to be kitschy and undesirable, but then they put it on a TC Barlow and now it’s considered a premium and sought after handle material. 😉
You see, I think each material just needs to find its own knife pattern. Glitter gold really fits the TC, at least that's what people think (I guess). Would love to see, for example, a lady leg with glitter gold covers too.

Oh yeah? Not in the Corridors of Taste it isn't :) Fancy some plastic faux wood/formica on your next TC Barlow?? I thought not..even with faux worm holes:D:eek:

GEC/Barlow fans have proven long ago that they are not the barometer of good taste.
You're basically saying that GEC Barlow is not a good looking knife and only some... peculiar people admire them. 😀 I don't know, I personally think that their Barlows are not only one of the most beautiful knives in their lineup, but in the traditional knives sphere in general. Or even in the whole folding knife sphere. I just find their lines and shapes the most appealing among others.

That is not what I am saying at all. I am saying that just because a GEC or a particular Barlow sells out quickly or demands high prices on the secondary market it does not mean it is in good taste. Therefore I do not use those metrics as my measurements for taste. It has been proven to me that better judgment sometimes goes out the window when GEC or barlow is on the label. Sometimes I wonder if Bill put a turd in a tube with a blade and a bolster if some folks would still buy it and claim it was a 1 of 1.

That would be cool. I've seen stabilized horse manure before. Way cool. Not sh!tty at all?

Oh, I see. That makes perfect sense.

stabilized horse manure
Why?

Johnny's etch too? Interesting. View attachment 2167714
Not a fan. GEC seems to be going down the hardcore collector rabbit hole. I liked it when they had three shields. Tidioute, UnXLd and Acorn, denoting their 3 lines. Nice traditional working patterns. My only gripe then was lack of nickel silver liners and pins in the higher end Northfield and GE lines. Guess I was being a little nostalgic and unrealistic. Collectors are the only real audience for traditional pocketknives now and it's a relatively small one. Still glad they are in business and putting out product though.

As a user and a collector, I assume they are doing what the market is calling for. Sorta. I'd be fine with knives you are referring too since I'm into GEC as a company and their manufacturing (hands on craftsmanship). With their production numbers and the amount of us old school guys out there, I think they would still sell out. I just hope I never see torx screws or any of the modern pump them out signs of construction. Which I feel we never will.

Agree. As long as they still clinch and coin their bolsters I'm happy. I occasionally see a pattern I like. The 81 muskrat was fantastic. Would have been better with their original shields and nickel silver hardware. Little bit of a bummer that such a traditional pattern, going back over 100 years, sat on the shelf...good for me though. It was one I really wanted for a long time.

For GEC - must be so, but I am sure that some non-knife person still might occasionally buy a Case or something if they need a pocket knife.
